It was an epic shooter MMO that burned you before the serious fights. You'd go in wanting to rid X planet of alien scum, secure an outpost. Plod along to an objective ridding the various breeds of scum on the way there and back. Be carrying an epic k/d ratio that would make Rambo, the Terminator and Robocop cry "Thats too much violence" and then you'd mop up the scum who recaptured your shiney new outpost that you just took before you took off.

After wiping out enough enemy to make even the UN nervous you'd be only just 1 hour in to level 3/4 and thinking to yourself: "I just did some thing utterly amazing, but for the life of me I can't figure out what".

That or put it a simple way. They made the fun parts dull, the dull parts mundane enough to bore even the most mind numbing person you know. It was a bit like having George Bush JR turn up at your house and be the most intelligent person there. You can't quite figure it out but you know theres some weird shit going on.

the introduction (tutorial) mission was quite amazing, as stated above.
The rest was "kill 15 wasps then 10 pigs" I AM A MARINE DAMNIT I do not grind wasps and pigs to level up, even if they are space pigs. What the fucking fuck.

As for warhammer 40k mmo.. I reckon a third person shooter could work, but against, as stated above, it's probably just going to be another wow clone in different wrapping. You guys will just have to wait for me to get the IP and make one

That and the worldly state of financial affairs what with the "Games Industry Is Immune To Recession" -bubble bursting it's highly unlikely any publisher is willing to take creative risks - especially with a project the scale of an mmo.

I'm HOPING for something new. Something in the area of MMOTPS being topmost: 3rd person because with WH40K i'd really prefer to see my toon with all the flair involved and melee combat is a huge part of the lore. Melee in 1st person just can't catch the feel proper. Or DoWII done mmo with every player controlling a single squad or vehicle would please me. Or the way they did the special stuff in latest CoH expansion, you know, the "semi direct" control.

I'm EXPECTING your bog-standard clicky-icon-let's-hit-in-turns job. That way at least i won't be too disappointed but have every opportunity to be pleasantly surprised.

End of the day GW will change their IP to suit the greater profit, they did with WAR by sticking everybody onto two teams and basically destroying the established world.

Speculation, fun as it is, kind of skirts the issue though. A great IP, or an entirely new IP, is no guarantee of quality of a lack thereof. A sucky company will find a way to make a game suck no matter what. Will just have to see how it all pans out.

I still think an MMOFPS would rock with the 40k IP. Mean even with the differences between the races and their weapons / vehicles making it hard to balance. I'm willing to give it a go regardless of what they decide to release, just because of the IP.

I seen this HL2 Mod (Exterminatus) and while it is still in development. I like the fact it's an FPS.

Fun has nothing to do with creating a mmo.
There has been official 40k fps games before so its not impossible...

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels

or

Warhammer 40,000 Fire Warrior

Well considering that Relic's working on the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine which is a 3rd person shooter/brawler for consoles only it's not completely written off that Vigil might go for something more shooty for the pc mmo than your same old action bar hell.

I have my doubts that they'll risk with anything outside the box though.

Anyone following MMOs knows that there has been talk of Vigil Games's Warhammer 40k MMO for some time. The game has remained shrouded in mystery and few have seen any real concrete news about its development. Then, a few weeks ago, THQ mentions the game in their investor call and how important the game will be for revenue. With that we learn that the game will be shown at E3 this year, and 40K fans suddenly looked up from their gaming tables and heard the call.
