The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG learns.

Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.

The unveiling of the new instalment has previously been rumoured (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=162775) for the South Korea event, though we now know that the title is in fact an online spin-off and not a new RTS game as previously assumed.

Of course this is massive news for both Vivendi and the MMO world; Blizzard's other online offering World of Warcraft has topped 6 million subscribers and is arguably the biggest game around today.

The question is, is there room for both World of Warcraft and a StarCraft MMO? The later will have to be a very different type of online game to convince gamers to subscribe to both of Blizzard's pair.

We will of course let you know as soon as soon as Blizzard officially confirms the game on May 19. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163207

Why have a skill game that will upset the unskilled players when you can make a click and wait that any retard can play successfully?

Atleast its Blizzard and not EA or something.
All of Blizzards games i liked so far.

PS: I read somewhere that some important lead designers guys we're fired at BLizz HQ and they hired ex-EverQuest ppl, and those ppl are now in charge of WoW and arguably Planetside MMO? I can atleast tell that WoW has taken a nose dive downwards since some time now.

Are you sure that's not just your own fatigue with playing the game? Do you really feel it's gone downhill?

*Sigh*

Obviously Om you dont have a clue about how the MMO industry works. Employees are constantly switching companies on a very regular basis. It is exceptionally rare to find a game which after the first year has developers working on it that were there at conception.

For example...

EQ1 has gone through about a dozen major Dev shake-ups, EQ2 has had about three, PlanetSide does not have a single developer left who worked on the game in the first year of release, SWG has gone through more developers than i care to number.

The MMO Industry has the highest employee turnover of any industry. If you applied your same astounding logic as in that post to all the games you have played then by definition they are all shit because they all lose/gain Developers over the course of their lifetime.

Omg, I'm agreeing with Ludi :)

And with a few exceptions, all devs are better loved after they have left for some other game.

heres a scary thought .....SoE have in effect just taken Vanguard off Sigil's hands [or are at least in the process of] ..which leaves Brad McQuaid and his crew at a lose end [ex EQ1 dev team].

i.e. World of Starcraft will be:
1. Years late
2. Unfinished at release
3. Requiring technology which is years away to run at anything like a decent framerate
4. Over-hyped

nope dont really have a clue about the MMO buisness, but i read some articles by ppl who obviously claimed they did. And they didnt made it seem like all the bad stuff from WoW comes from those EQ devs.

Ill try and look it up..
