Yes, i know what your thinking, "Football Manager?, MMO? Whaaaa?"

Yep, Sports Interactive, the guys who brought you Championship Manager (Until Eidos fucked it up!) and Football Manager (Their current series) are working on an MMO version of Football Manager where you can create your own team and play against people all across the globe, interacting and conversing via Chat, Matches or Player Trading.

Here is a little bit of the Marketing speil!

Football Manager Live is a new concept in football management. Put your managerial skills to the test in a 'real-time' environment where you compete live and online against your friends or rivals.

Features Include:

Create and manage your very own football club. Choose your colours and badge, design your kit and name your stadium.
Build your own dream team from the huge Sports Interactive database of real-world players within the Football Manager database.
Compete in Football Manager Live gameworlds 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in your quest to top the rankings table.
Create and run your own league and cup competitions. Take on the world or simply compete for bragging rights with your friends.
A comprehensive transfer system allowing you to buy, sell and loan players, as well as bidding for new players with the exciting auction system.
If you invest in an expensive squad, you'll need on-field success to win tournaments and climb the rankings to balance your finances.
Go head to head and utilise all your football management knowledge as you pit your wits against other human players in a unique match-day experience.
Real-time SMS alerts mean you are never far away from the action.

If you still interested at this point head over to www.footballmanagerlive.com and register for your chance to enter the Beta which starts within the next month.

Sounds like a normal football manager with a server browser and monthly fees, tbh.

Nah, you actually create your team as opposed to taking control of a real one.

Also its not actually decided on how much it will cost per month.

Tbh i wont play it past beta tbh unless it does do something special as opposed to my Singleplayer FM game.

I didn't believe it was possible for anyone to come up with an MMO idea that might actually be even less time consuming than EVE can be.

Guess I was wrong.

Depends on which ones you have tried, Sports Interactive are the guys responsible for the best incarnation of the Manager Sim, Football Manager. Avoid the latest Championship Manager games and FIFA (Shit)Manager as they are both utter wank.

While graphically it is alot of Stats and Numbers its alot more complicated than that. As players age their abilitys change, for example an ageing striker will have a distinct lack of pace and stamina but he will be better at finishing and his ability to cope with crucial matches without losing his nerve will become greater.

I akin the genre to the Turn Based Strategy genre as its almost identical, its all about micro management but rather than towns and cities its players and matches.

It all depends on what you like really but the people who liken the games to Excel are usually the ones that slate games because "The graphics are shit" or "Its too complicated" so i generally ignore those idiots.

my football crazed friend loves football manager. and tbh, it does look like quite a decent game if you're into it. as ludi said, they put a lot of emphasis onto little details that would effect the players abilities. you have so many choices as a manager.

There currently is nothing even close to the levels of excellence in this particular genre. It's only gotten better ever since the first CM.

If you read the credits for FM and the old CM from Sports Interactive and check out how many unpaided people contribute to stats collection you will be amazed.

Its a good few tens of thousands that give stats info in their spare time to help make these games.

A football manager sim without known players would be a fantastic challenge.

Somebody didnt find the 'Randomize Players' button in FM07 i see :p

What it does is randomly generate players based on a clubs reputation so clubs like Chelsea & Man Utd still have good players but you dont have a clue who is best as you need to go deeply into the stats :p

I found that button, but 95% of the fun of FM2007 is getting Maureeninho fired.

M8 at work is playing and he getting addicted, he never really liked the whole MMO PC world and always says consoles so much easier, I garentee he will soon be taking sickies to play this game.

From what it sounds like you have to like Football, and if your used to finsing the cheat mode to buy all the players you want then dont pay a monthly sub.

He cant wait for the live version but he is worried about the monthly sub

I must admit, it is really addictive.

Yeah, you will have to like football to get any enjoyment out of this, but if you do then be prepared for a truly great management sim!

I am concerned about the monthly sub but i hear it may only be a fiver a month :)
