tbh it depends what kind of gameplay you like
Slower paced, squad orienatated teamwork then buy it.
if you prefer quicker instant action games, where your not waiting around for anything upto 10 minutes doing nothing i'd advise some caution.
but having said that, it's only £18

If you can handle the pace of Planetside you can handle ArmA.
Personally for me I just think that ArmA requires a different skill set to many other games and it might frustrate you if you can't get your head around it. Unlike most FPS games for instance you are out in the open and combat is going on all around. It's tricky to get the hang of killing but when you do it's very rewarding. Popping a running target at 200m with iron sights and seeing them sprawl to the turf deader than Elvis is great. Because you play as a grunt rather than as a hero it can be frustrating when an enemy grunt just guns you down like a bitch, and the AI is not the most forgiving in that regard.
At the moment the major addon tools are not out, but there is still a trickle of extras coming out. Also the Legions batch of mission makers are becoming more accomplished as time goes on and I reckon we're probably going to see more missions from others on the server soon.

I've given up on it as an evening game, as I rarely get any satisfaction out of the gameplay. You come on for half an hour or so to have a fight, and spend most of that time sitting round waiting.
I've no doubt the wider ArmA community will make something quite special out of it, but for now it remains essentially a half-finished game that relies on Wiki to take up the slack. That might be forgivable if it was retailed as such, but its by no means worth £30. Only buy if you can find a good discount.

90% of warfare is waiting :)
I can see how a successful tactical maneuvers etc can give gameplay enjoyment. I would try this game myself if I felt I had the time to put into it.

I think what's probably needed is more of the faster paced mission maps for the evening shift. We have some that can be turned around in about ten minutes, some even quicker than that. Others can take up to forty five minutes or so, especially if something goes wrong in their design.

Things only go wrong because you don't design them with Kampf in mind! :p

there is now a great mission called battle of corazol, it's action over action.
and there are unlimited respawns.
you can keep shooting until you are out of amunition, and there will still be hundreds.
it is at version 0.996 now, wich means it's almst bugfree.
