Hi Guys. I recently did some theorycrafting about shadow bolt vs soufire and Pyro somhow got mixed into it. I'd just like to know wether or not my calculations regarding pyro, it's dot, Ignite and critting are correct or there's some mechanic I'm not aware of. I added some more numbers for the sake of confusion btw.

With 560 Fire dmg, Emberstorm and Ruin, Soulfire will hit for:

(((703 + 881)/2) + 560) * 1.1 = 1487 average and Crit for (1487 * 2) = 2974

Now a Pyro would'nt crit that high but Ignite would instead make it do an added 40% of the dmg over 4 seconds.
Assumed Fire Power and Ignite:

(((708 + 898)/2) + 560) * 1.1 = 1499.

The dot: 268 + (0.7 * 560) = 660 over 12 seconds. for a total of: 2159 dmg after 12 seconds.

Crit: 1499 * 1.5 = 2248 and ignite would add 0.4 * (1499 + 660) = 863 over 4 seconds for a total of 3111 dmg. I assume that Ignite does not consume the DoT making a Pyro crit with 560 spelldmg a total of 3770 after 12 seconds.

Back on topic:

Shadow Bolt: (Full Destruction, Shadow&Flame):

((482 + 538)/2)+((3/3.5)*560) + (0.2*560) = 1102 hit, Crit: 2 * 1102 = 2204

Difference between Soulfire and Shadow Bolt with a Full Destruction spec:

0 spelldmg:

(792 * 1.1) - 510 = 361

560 spelldmg (Numbers taken from calculations above):

1487 - 1102 = 385

Calculations with 1000 spelldmg:

(792 + 1000) * 1.1 = 1971 hit

510 + (3/3.5 * 1000) + (0.2 * 1000) = 1567 hit

Difference:

1971 - 1567 = 404

Finally:

So SF Did 361 dmg more than SB at 0 spelldmg and 404 more at 1000 Spelldmg or in other words:

45 dmg added in difference over 1000 spelldmg added and this is as a fire specced Warlock. (Yes, they will also have Shadow&Flame due to Incinerate).

This is not so surprising in fact. the + damage calculation is added to both spell, so you have a small difference between difference @0 dmg and @+1000 dmg. If now you make the calculation taking the ratio dmg@0 /dmg@+1000, you will obtain the same value for both spell. I think it" works as intended" like blizz always says :p.

I'm not caster specialist but what level are you getting those 2 ultimate levels. maybe the + damage reduction can interact if they are given at different levels. (like 52 and 56)

Hehe. Maybe I should've deleted the other stuff :) My main concern was wether or not My Pyro Calulations are water tight since I don't know the class mechanics as well as I do locks. Already noticed that I havent added any fire power to the pyro DoT so I gotta remember that for future calc's (I think).

Here's the part I wanted you to analyze^^

Assumed Fire Power, Ignite and 560 spelldmg:

(((708 + 898)/2) + 560) * 1.1 = 1499.

The dot: 268 + (0.7 * 560) = 660 over 12 seconds. for a total of: 2159 dmg after 12 seconds.

Crit: 1499 * 1.5 = 2248 and ignite would add 0.4 * (1499 + 660) = 863 over 4 seconds for a total of 3111 dmg. I assume that Ignite does not consume the DoT making a Pyro crit with 560 spelldmg a total of 3770 after 12 seconds.

What I'm especially doubtfull about is how the DoT part plays into Ignite from crits.
