Hi guys,

Welcome to the new Shaman forum. To kick things off here's my current talent spec: Elemental Mastery + Enhancement (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shamans/talents.html?5500015501021515005022105000000000000 000000000)

Hmmmm well tbh, If you took the 2 points outta storm reach and slammed them in Eye of the storm that would be awesome.

Thing is with storm reach is WHY do you want an extra 6 yars? a Mage will still touch you, same with warlock, hunter.

TBH Eye of the storm is too good to not have 3/3 in it.

just my £0.02

I'll give it a go on the test realm... I need to try out Stormstrike as well...

I'm using an Enhancement / Restoration (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shamans/talents.html?0000000000000005005032105003151550023 500000000) build now. Stormstrike is quite fun but the 12 second timer on the debuff makes it impossible to get out two Earthshocks before it fades.

I'm considering going for a Elemental / Resoration (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/shamans/talents.html?5500015503001510000000000000000550003 200050000) build now I have Staff of Dominance and Spineshatter (for soloing).

Any comments?

Hey Grim mate,

I have respecced a gazillion times by now, and I still haven't decided what I like the most, I will write down my experiences with my last two builds:

-30/0/21
Aka, n3rf teh shammy :) I have to say that I have pretty good caster epics now, still lacking the trinckets and some good rings, but other then that, I'm pretty pimped in this department, so I dish out loads and loads of burst damage. If I'm not slacking I can stay 1st on dmg meters in small raids but ONLY on the trash! During boss fights, forget it, better start healing, cause you go Oom WAY too fast with this spec vs bosses. In AV etc.. I swear, it's an absolute beast of a spec. Nothing like doing CL crits where the first one crits for 1,7K and the other two also crit .. for a little less :p Followed by a 1,8K Earthshock, which happens rather often with the right gear & talents, you can kill people prety damn fast. Since I crit so often, I don't take 31 in elemental, but pick NS for the insta-CL or insta-heal, absolutely amazing stuff, though on a 3 min timer.

The other good part, because I have loads +dmg gear, I can switch to healing during bosses, and still do a solid amount of healing (also thanks to the talents in resto), I didn't feel like my healing was much worse then from the time I was gaytide specced.

I must say, stress, that this spec, I am convinced, is the best spec for shamans at the moment, as long as you have MANA! After that, you're just .. well wasting air.

The absolute KILLER for me here however, is the fact that I NEVER get to play with a 2hander.. so I never see WF crits, or swing stuff dead in the blinck of an eye, which is, let's admit it, a joy to witness :)

Because of this (and because I like to play different spec every month or so lol) I am now euhm something like 23/28/0 if I'm not mistaking.
-Got way worse gear here, but however, I'm having loads of fun swinging hand of justice & WF procs :) Nothing compares really, it's what all shammies love I think. The good part is I get the joy of the SICK earthshock crits, but I can't spam LB and CL anymore, which I kinda miss, but hey if I wanne nuke, I go play my mage (which I never do) is how I figure it. I have no nature swiftness, and no uninterruptable heals (except for that talent, after crit, cast blabla, which is nice, but usually you're dead anyway), which makes me a loyal customer of the graveyard in the battlegrounds, suicidal to say the least. The sexy thing is, you can go oom, and still kill people with a lucky WF proc etc.. the bad thing is, you can't do sick CALCULATED burst damage, like when I was elemental, if it was 1vs2, I'd burn a nature swiftness, and nuke the first and weakest one to death in a sec or three, and then fight normal vs the player still standing. 1vs2, I find very hard at the moment, perhaps because my gear is still not good.

In PvE, you have way more sustainable damage, this is very clear to me now, if I want to DPS in the raid (and I really do), I have to forget elemental, and go Enhancement (as my main focus), because even oom, you're still quite dangerous and can keep auto-attacking!

In PvP you can do the sickest of things, or proc no WF at all and die like a noob :) The most beautiful moments are those where you get an ES crit (for something over 1K) & WF crits or get a WF proc & Hand of justice etc.. I'm sure you can imagine how nice but rare these moments are.

I'm quite the noob at the enhancement stuff though, I got the elemental spec down like masturbation, but enhancement is still not completely understood :P

However, I am of the opinion now, that if I go Enhancement, getting those 23 points in Elemental, is quite the waste. Because you are focusing your talents mostly on critting with Elemental MAstery, yet it is very hard to find loads of Mail that has crits to spell AND crit to melee on it SO you are basicaly gimping 23 talent points, to get extra burst damage every so often from a sick shock crit.. which in my opinion and with my current gear, don't happen often at all... So I am now considering, if it's not best to simply focus on 0 in elemental and go for 30 or 31 in Enhancement and rest in restoration. The 0 points in resto builds only become viable, in my opinion, when you have most of your gear with +stats to meleee AND +stats to spells. The rare burst from a crit to spells, does not weigh up against a nature swiftness heal or Stormstrike, in my opinion.

I would love to hear Cele's opinion though.

Shaman can be customized alot atm yes, but you need to have the gear ready for it aswell, otherwise fun is shortlived.

For sustain dps in pve + i-do-it-all-fear-me in every situation would suggest 23/28/0 where you cut a few talents from weapon mastery and put them to storm reach instead (+6 yards in AV makes a hell of a difference). And full-crit damage from talent is needed aswell. BUT this build is not the best burst damage - you are good versus anything but no good in nothing particular.

Full ele spec i think Schene described well, but you can also back it up with enchantment to counter oom, but on the other hand, +3 to hit with spells in resto tree is too valuable for ele-shammy too loose. Personally I consider 30(1)/0/20(1) an AV and duelling toy only (and u can still be outhealed in duels).

34 in enchantment is the best burst damage for shaman actually, granted u have the gear for it (for PVP you want to have not only +attackpower but mix with some spellpower aswell). The 20% add on nature damage counters well loss of full-crit bonus and to have 1 more attack under your control is very good to have. For PVE fights in this build you want to have 0 spelldamage on you but +agi and +ap and +str only. OOM is not an issue in MC, since our fights have become fast enough. Would be in BWL, but auto-attack + new totems from regen is powerfull aswell. (cant counter rogues tho in BWL any more).

Be it 30 or 34 in ench, is the best grinding build aswell - you never need to stop to drink. And thoes instagibs you do every now and then, uh.. I dont loose to good warlocks once again any more.

34 ench build problem is 1-handed/2-handed setup. You need to be 1-handed vs rogues and warriors (i actually use full +spelldamage 1-handed gear vs warriors if i get time to switch), but you want to be 2-handed vs clothies. Thats the hook of this build.. expect sometimes to be instaganked by rogue, who gets you stunlocked with 2-hander equipped.

Loads points in resto (and gear worn) is a duelling and backup toy aswell. It works amazingly well in duels vs few classes actually, but before BC and laddersystems It has no real use - you dont have the luxury to spend 5 min to fight 1vs1 instead of 30 sec, since you never know who will get help next sec - is it you or him.

My current specc is 5/5/41.

-5 points in elemental for some shock dmg (I took this instead of healing way and instead of making 5/5 speed healing wave, got 3/5 there now).

-5 points in enchancement for the extra mana that is beneficient for as I am a resto shamback that doesn't want to go out of mana.

-41 points in restoration:

->I didn't take healing way (I mostly use lesser healing wave, and yes I know that might be not that good for Pve, but still, I got almost +600 healing).

->I didn't take mana spring/tide talents nor cheaper totems nor extra range for totems for the simple fact I wanna enjoy playing and don't wanna become a 100% healing bot. (taking those talents would be bad for pvp also, except the range of the totems then, but hadn't any talents left).

->I didn't improve fire totems, stoneclaw totems, etc. bcz I Don't find that very useful.

->Earth shield owns and always saves my ass, those healing proccs rlly help for outhealing 1 or more enemy dps classes. (outhealed 3 naxx geared alliances,( rogue, warrior, warrior), for 25 sec and with no help.)

=> Will this build be useful for the Burning Crusade?

1. Shamanistic rage seems to be correlated with weapon speed - i thought and as tooltip says, you need fast weapons, but that "chance to get mana back on hit" seems to be higher on slower weapons and less on faster weapons. Tested on 2.20 + 2.9 vs 1.3 + 1.5 and i'd say I got more mana back with my axes. Witch is nice - dont need to piss too many rogues up.

And for Stormstrike and max dps you actually need slower weapons. Dont think its worthwhile to have anything faster than 2.0.

2. I thought dual wield is a pve only. I was wrong - past week i havent wielded my 2-hander even once. Frostband weapons on both weapons (or flametongue on 2nd) is just too good to ignore, topping bg-boards on my total pve gear and dual-wielding contantly.

3. Use higher single hit dps weapon on your mainhand for better SS damage, can be faster weapon than your off-hand. For minimal flurry procrate bonus hitting more with your mainhand its reccomended aswell (offhand suffers -50% damage).

"3. Use higher single hit dps weapon on your mainhand for better SS damage"

I ment with this that regardless whats the weapon DPS rating, use in main hand weapon with higher damage.
Cause offhand weapon has -50% damage penatly and if a>b then a + b/2 <> a/2 + b :D

for example, I have:
main hand - High Warlord's Cleaver, 138 - 207 Damage, 59,5 dps, 2.90 speed
off hand - Crul'shorukh, 101 - 188 damage, 62,8 dps, 2,30 speed

With this setup I hit with SS on average (before stat modifiers):
main hand: 138+207/2= average 172,5
+
off hand: 101+188/2= average 144,5 and /2 due to offhand penalty = 72,25
total of 244,75 ss hit on target

If equipping weapons the other way, i would hit:
mainhand: average 144
+
off hand: average 172,5 / offhand penalty-50% = 86,25
total of 230,25 ss hit on target

Saw you dpsing while wearing mostly EF, dont u have something better? I dont think its worthwhile to dps dual-wielding unless u got at least +5 to hit.
