What the fuck was Zidane playing at?

Jesus, he usually has a very cool head for the big occasions but he totally flipped like a pancake.

I think there was something suspicious going on with the referee too, it took him about 100yards of walking, 5mins of talking to his linesman just to give him a red card for an offence he didnt see.

Me thinks that the 4th official told him, which according to Refereeing rules, he is not allowed to make calls like that.

Dont think it matters what was going on the side lines, he still thumped him with his head and deserved to be sent of regardless

In the greater scheme of things it does matter... its a breach of FIFA's regulations to use the fourth official for Match Play judgement or so they claim when the argument for video replays is bought up.

Zidane deserved to be sent off, but if the referee didnt see it, how can he give it?

If the Referee hadnt have given him the card, FIFA would still have given him a match ban and maybe even a football ban for the rest of his life.

I point this out as even more inconsistency with the refereeing.

Compare this headbutt to what happened with Figo.... he got away almost scot free because the ref didnt see it but the linesman did.

Its disgusting.

He still got Best Player (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2006/5154248.stm), though.

He absolutely deserved to be sent off - provocation or otherwise. That's simply unacceptable at his level. It's such a shame that the end of his career was that though - its such an unlikely thing for Zizou to do.

firstly, its the 5th official who has the video replay, and he isnt allowed to talk to any other official (which i think he did)

the 4th official i think was told by the italian coach or the 5th official what happened.

and i quote:

"It appears the referee was waiting for the situation to clear up a little bit before taking action."

from http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/teams/france/5164616.stm

nifty little excuse why it would have taken 5m to give a red card.. enough time to get a reason to send him off.

i think fifa is to blame.

france should have won hands down, they were the better team and due to unfortunate sercumstances: viera and henry being injured along with that bloody ITY mouthing zizou off, they lost :(

Shit happens... remember : don't piss off french folks :D
At least it's not a clean victory for Italy

The French should have won?? The goal they got in regular game time was only awarded based on a penalty shot, witch was not decerved anyway.
Now I had money on the french, but in no way did they decerve to win, especially not since the team captain, or rahter former, decided to display great sportsmanship like that...
But tbh I don't think any of the team decerved to win the WC after a match like that.

I was rooting for the Frenchies from kick-off.

Reason? The italian scandal. I personally beleive that the Italian side should have been disqualified from the WC as punishment for their FA not picking up the Match fixing earlier, they were doing it for so many seasons its unreal.

Then.... Z-man did his Head-Fu and changed it all around. I hate cheaters, i deplore them yet i hate violent un-sportsmanlike people just as much.

After the head-butt i switched alleigence and supported Italy (Even tho they are cheats).

According to danish Tabloid, Ekstra Bladet (http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/landsholdsfodbold/article210338.ece), the Italien said "Your sister to a ho"... "According to brazilian experts in lipreading experts he called his sister a ho"...

How the hell can Zidane be best player in WC? He did some good matches, in the beginning he sucked bigtime. The one that should have got it should have been Cannavaro the italian defense man. All WC he did great and Italy owe the WC win to him.

even though the french only scored 1 goal due to a penalty, this is my breakdown of how the 2 teams played.

0-35m = italy playing better

35-45m = even

45-60 = french

60-70 = italians

70-100 = french

100-120 = even

even with france's 3 best players off the pitch and only 10 frenchies playing, italy wernt able to make any decent shots on goal. the french had way more possession and they had many more opportunities.

they had 10 men for what? 10 minuites in extra time? i dont think any of the players have enough energy to keep going at top level after playing for that long

One of the best games this WC. And sadly football is about winning the game not playing the funniest.
