First of all, my machine spec again:

Athlon 64 4400+
MSI K8N-SLI motherboard
2GB Dual Channel RAM (200Mhz, I'm told this means they have an effective speed of 400Mhz?)
2 x 6800GT (I think not factory clocked but they got big ass fans, using DNA Drivers)
Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
Logitech G15 Keyboard
Logitech MX510 Mouse
Logitech "Momo" FF Racing wheel/pedals
Logitech "Dual Action" gamepad
2x240GB SATA drives

I have a licensed OEM version of Windows XP Pro installed on my PC (primary Hard Disk install, swap file on second hard disk).

I'm thinking of trying out Windows x64 by installing it on my secondary hard disk, swap file on my primary, with a boot switcher to allow me to chose which OS to boot up into. (Using an unused corporate copy to do this)

I can find drivers for all of my hardware except for the mouse.

Is it worth me trying x64 or not? Should I wait for Vista64? Will I notice any difference in benchmarking between the two installs? Does x64 allow me to install the way I want?

Comments please :)

Nice setup.

Dout you will benifit much from 64bit compatability tho. Most current games wont take advantage of it.

Also I dont know much about Vista yet, altho its supposed to be better then XP it seems more business orientated. XP was designed with gaming in mind. Vista may also be more attentive to how 'legal' things are that you try and install.

PS: Logitech "Dual Action" gamepad - Duel Action eh? Wonder what else it does :O

Well, everything I have on that machine is fully legit and legal, so no problem there.

As Peg said, not many games take advantage of 64bit Tech.

Ive also heard that some people are having problems running 32bit apps on it too. I havnt seen any proof of this so im a bit on the fence about it.

That said i would never ever use a WinOS when its fairly new, there are bound to be bugs and security flaws.

I personally think just Running XPPro will be more than enuff and your PC should fly...

About the games that fully support 64bit.. afaik there is only 1 and that is Far Cry. For most games it's Dual Core > 64bit.

Riddick: Escape from butcher bay does...

I also hear there is a 64bit version for UT2004, altho im a bit suspicious about that.

There are many Linux based 64bit games, but ofcourse that is of fuck all use to you :)
