as the title says...

would it be worth it to try this game out as a pvp-oriented player?

went to the ts channel and boy did i get flashbacks of my time in DAoC.
i heard a grind going on in the old fashion, not to mention they didnt even let me ask a question in between.
ppl say the pvp is fun. but pvp is always fun, but i'm wondering if it is hard to find, this pvp. skullie says he has great time playing eq2, my brother says it is the king of the boring grinding.

any thoughts on the matter b4 i get impatient and buy it?
maybe i should ignore the game some more untill some decent game comes out?

Well about PvP. I've played a bit on there and as it is now I'm too far behind to find any fun in PvP. Especially as a caster. The nmy is too high level for me to hit (Tired of "Resisted", "Resisted", "Resisted", "Resisted") and if I find someone on my own level they usually manage to get into close combat and disrupt my casts. But I guess a tank or something similar would be quite fun with a healer in the background.

As regards to grinding... well if you manage to do some decent pvp you'll get xp, money and drops from the nmy so that is a big + in my PvP book. So you don't have to grind mobs to level up and such you just grind players. :D

The game looks very nice, got a lot of story and lore in it but if you want to play it when it looks best you'd better get a MONSTER pc. But that said at lower quality it still looks quite awesome.

Having played EQ1 I must say that it's a BIG improvement in the graphics engine so the fell and handling of the game is good.

So for you're question: Is it worth to try? Well I'm still not sure I want to pay for it. I got the 30 days trial just to see it if is anything and it's fun (no worries I'm not leaving WoW) but again paying for it.... hmmm I don't think so yet. So my advice is see if you can get a trial or something so you can see for your self. :D

The reason for that m8 is some people have the Veteran rewards, which include potions that increase your XP gain by roughly 20%, 30% and 50%.

It basically means they will level quick for the moment.

Also bear in mind that the players your level on the freeport side will stay very close to their city... wait till you hit 20 and you start getting into Thundering Steppes and Nek Forest... then you will see alot of player your level.

I didn't really like the game much, I agree it looks very nice, but I feel that the combat system is a bit too slow paced, it seems to me that you need to spend even more time than in wow to kill something here. Also I didn't like the way the game was introduced, I feel that it too thin, and the narrator at the start is shit :P

What I did really like though, was the crafting system, and the heroic action. Gives the game a very interactive feel. Still I think it's too close to WoW to bother with starting all over again.

I would how ever, think that I would play eq2 if the rest of RL started with that instead of WoW.

Tbh Daymare the game isnt the same as it was when it was first released...

Gone is the boat intro.
Gone is the Yank voice giving you the basics.

The combat is faster paced... but its not just a case of spamming buttons like WoW.

If i was you m8 id just download the Trial Of The Isle and see what you think of it now... cuz it really is nothing like the game i remembered.

yup .. gotta agree with ludi here ...the pvp combat is fast paced.

*Target enemy group*
*cast Negative Absolution* [3 seconds]
*Player 1 Dies you gain fame*
*Player 2 dies, you gain fame*
*player 3 dies, you gain fame*
*player 4 dies, you gain fame*
*player 5 dies, you gain fame*

I thought this would be the same game i tested 6 months ago, but boy was i wrong. The PvP system SoE have going here really does put WoW to shame. The game content is as immersive as DDO. The in game graphics, if you have a reasonably high spec machine are awesome. [dont let screenshots of the game where people are using the class based special vision modes fool you]

If you can get hold of a trial key, or have an old suspended account, i would suggest reactivating it for a month or so and giving it a try... you might be pleasantly suprised

SOE has managed to do something very good here. Everything is pretty balanced and working well... There isn't any classes that are overpowered * other htan the necro bugged pet :P* and every item and spell has a PvE damage and a PvP damage that are different to each other.

At the minute there are so much PvP everywhere that you need escorts to do anything. Go and try to harvest resources and you'll have FPers ganking you.. Run from a dungeon to another and get ganked.. There are Freeporters in transit at all time wanting to kill you.

This is why we've had to basicly group up before we leave our city, get on TS and travel in packs to our destinations..

So yes there is PvP everywhere at all times!!!

THe qeynos channel which is a global channel is constantly reporting sightings of freeporters in Antonica which makes sure you will never be bored.

Ow yeah and just a note.

If you're bored and level 18+ go to Commonlands * the freeporters outdoor area* sneak around and kill random players then switch positions to a new place somewhere and gank. Its great fun :P

WoW sucks, Most of these semi-turnbased games cunningly hidden behind a semi-realtime engine suck, the only reason I'm bothereing with EQ2 is to stop Ludi spamming me and because its free.

Initial opinions: Dear god what am I doing? Going around killing spiders to look for a written document? Its just like every bloody MMOFakeRPG with differant graphics, just like Hovis said.

Your judging the game on its running animation?

I can understand fluff... he isnt a big fan of MMORPG's....

But dont you think thats a pretty petty thing?

MMORPGs are often boring so they have to look great at least.
cant say i enjoy the interface nor the animations nor the graphics.
its an important part to a RPG to me so yes.

Its the best MMORPG graphcis and animation wise.. I can't think of another MMO game that gets even close.

Given a high end PC from the distant future the graphics would be spectacular. At the moment though personally I don't rate EQ2s engine for fighting in. You can hang out in the town posing and look the mutts nuts, fair dos, and if you have the system to really muller the settings it can look properly spectacular, but those lovely frame rates hit rock bottom in a big fight. Not to mention the game is pretty much a pure grind. You do exactly the same stuff at level 1 as you do at level 70. The only difference being that larger numbers are involved.

I'm not going to rain on the parade though, sounds like you guys are having fun. We'll keep the spawn tube warmed up for you when you get back. :D

Hi there .. dont know you but where u need to be corrected i'll try to do so:
forgive me.

my current system:

PentIV 3.8gig (normal core)
2 gig Ram

Nvidia 7800 GTX 256MB

Sata HD

this is far from the system of the future nor is it a high end machine ...
this didnt cost more than 1.5k Euros in switzerland wich is a pricey country for HW in general.

Now before you make such statements what was your system running when you where the last time involved in a big group fight of EQ2 PvP ??

it runs smooth as butter even if i play the pre setted "extreme Quality" and take part in big PvP fights (40+ peeps). It may get laggy in indoor instances with them fingerfizzlers going wild and pushing out one animation rich spell after the other.... thats where i nodge the settings one step down or disable some of the details manually.
Furthermore there is at the moment no MMORPG out that even gets close to such kind of graphics engine's performance if so feel free to state it here since i plainly would HAVE to check it out :P

my few coppers.

Cheers!
D.
