Hi folks,

I have a wireless network set up in the house, with the router (Belkin highspeed 125 wireless-g wotsit) about 4 meters away from the PC (again, Belkin internal 125 wotsit). It's secured with WPA-SPK, both the PC and the router are, as far as I can tell, set to the same channel (11 on the router, 11 on the IBSS Channel Number on the PC card). Using PPPoE at the moment (for no other reason than I could get it to work - is this the right one? I've heard it's meant to be PPoA, but can't seem to get a link with that :))

The speed is pretty constant at 54, but the signal strength varies from Low to Very Low, which I find surprising given the proximity of the two units. Between the router and the PC's wireless card is 1 sofa, me and the PC itself - basically it's uninterrupted. That's why I think something funny's going on...

Also worth noting that the connection seems to drop our pretty regularly and needs repairing.

Anyone have any ideas how to speed the damn thing up, 'cos my downloads and net connectivity is, frankly, a bit shit at the moment.

Are there any walls/floors in between the two?

Nope none.

can you directly connect the cable to the pc to see if it picks up on speed? might be able to show whether its a wireless problem or a router problem

A direct cable connection brings the rating up to 'excellent', hence it's a wireless thing, not a router thing, I guess.

Try to set the signal strenght to max on your router if it is on automatic signal strenght.

Ok so I have the wireless stuff working pretty well now, but the one exception is WoW. I can run okish for a few minutes, then the lag starts to rocket - up to around 2000 or so. sometimes it'll come back down to 400 or so, but more often than not i'll simply end up getting booted.

Any ideas?

Surely you have fps games like Quake3 or Counter-Strike you can test?

Have you tried a simple speed test? Like downloading a large file? It sounds to me as if you are bandwidth limited on your wireless setup?

If you are, and you have set it up correctly, how about firmware update on the router?

bandwidth limited? hmm, doubt it mate, as the Xbox and Laptop both seem to get great speeds still.
