oh yeah and i seen PSU's for £10 i suppose i should stay away from those... but i need about a 350w-400w PSU my current one is 350w. but i need it to be cheap but will be good. i have no money to spend and well basically theres no way in hell id be able to buy a new one unless its about £20-30 (inc delivery)

Rubber gloves will stop you killing yourself.

Keuneau Reeves kills demons in Constantine, and lives in a computer in Matriz.

PSU's arnt worth the hassle to fix... And i wudnt try it even if i had 2 inch thick rubber gloves. Those capacitors WILL kill you... and even if your super lucky and they dont... It will take your fingers or even your hand right off.

Best idea is to buy a decent one... about £40 for a 400w one...

Who needs a stun gun (or some shock paddles) when you can just rip off your PSU casing and throw it at people.

PSU's scare me.PSU's don't scare me :)
It really is a fairly simple job to remove the cover and replace (or oil in some cases) the fan.

Assuming that the psu is out of the comp and not connected to the mains there is little danger from the capacitors, its a step down transformer, not a UHT step up one, so voltages are low not high (like in a tv).

The problems are more simple normally, the plug on the end of the fan will almost certainly be slightly different to the one on the replacement fan, so some time spent with a pin gently persuading the pins out of the socket is often the hardest part of the job. Or simply cut the wire and solder on the old plug (don't forget to insulate the bare wires).

i could do with a 400w PSU anyway. this current one is only 350w. no evil noise today, fan still spinning... so its not dead yet its just on its way out.
