i'm getting more and more into the idea of buying a shuttle pc, but i have a question. There are 2 models that interest me: the P8100G and the SB77G5. They both can run at full specs, and they both seem to have the same specs, but I can't figure out the main difference between them. What is so much better about eh P8100G compared to the SB77G5?

have a look here at the P8100G (http://eu.shuttle.com/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-171/310_read-3476/)vs. SB77G5 (http://eu.shuttle.com/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-72/170_read-10059/)

they look like safes. but the P8100G does look preety good. better than my old shite pc. what is it with people and buying wierd arsed pc's. couldnt seem to see some of the spec on the SB77G5 tho. its probably just me.
go for the P1800G imo because it has some very nice spec and shouldnt fuck up like your alienware did.

unfortunatly, the P1800G is a bit bigger :( i might instead buy the alienware small form factor since they seem to spec it out a bit more and have mucho better Tech support.

I dont get the Shuttle unless youre a real Lan freak...

Why have a tower that is easier to steal? I mean the most breakinns I have seen they usaly dont take the tower if theres a laptop there also. If theres a laptop and a smal shuttle there both gone :)

i travel a lot and i like brining my games with me. so it's either a laptop (alienware) or a shuttle. Shuttle is probably better since it can be upgraded.

nice PC. id prefer an athlon 64 socket 939 but that's still good.
i wouldnt reccomend an itty bitty case though. bastard to cool. get a proper midi-tower if you can. there are plenty of light ones with carry handles if lugging it about is a problem.

i think that the athlon that they're offering isnt that good. I also trust intel more.

about the size - i hear that they can keep them cool nowadays, so im putting my money on it. This size is the biggest i go before getting a laptop, so i'll have to do with it.

i'm probably going to buy it from alienware since i may not be able to get my money back, just get credit, but it's no biggie. Otherwise, ill get the Shuttle built one:

I have a shuttle for quite a while now, never had any heat problems. I made some modifications though, and I'm running a passively cooled Radeon 9800 AiW with just the I.C.E. fan (which I replaced with a silent one) and the power unit fan running.

Don't be fooled by the size though GA, you have a lot of stuff to carry with you on top of the Shuttle (keyboard, mouse, monitor, headset at least).

If you have to travel much get a proper gaming notebook.

really? thats good to hear. How did you buy it?

I.C.E. fan (which I replaced with a silent one)

I thought that the I.C.E. fan was the silent one?

I have 2 spair monitors, so i can leave one at home and leave on in switzerland.

If you have to travel much get a proper gaming notebook.

Well, that's the other possiability, i just like having full power and not keep crashing all the time (im on my 3rd laptop now in 2 years)

Please give me any reccommendations that you have.

Thanks

I wasn't being too exact actually.

The stock I.C.E. fan is pretty damn quiet already, but the board features a temperature controlled fan speed and when using this I could hear the fan speeding up and down, and on the higher speed settings it was quite audible (not loud mind you, but you could hear it). So I replaced it with one that you can't hear, and at least on the paper it has about the same airflow.

I didn't know you travel between 2 places where you got a room or whatever "storage" on each place, that changes quite a lot.

In this case the shuttle is pretty much the PC to go for, I think.

I've put together my Shuttle myself (read: I didn't get a full system, just the Barebone and what comes with it), and being the silent freak (and also using it for everything Multimedia) I did the following modification with my 9800 AiW and the case:

http://forums.sudhian.com/messageview.aspx?catid=46&threadid=63053&highlight_key=y&keyword1=radeon

(It's not my instruction, I just followed it)

I'm not up to date regarding Shuttle (or other brand) barebones, but I know that Shuttle got a Socket 939 one out, and there are some nifty looking Multimedia Barebones from other brands.

Cheers,

ah, right, fair enough then - im not really too fussed with a bit of sound (my laptop sounds like the inside of a flying airplane when running a game).

question: 'barebone' systems, what are they? if you look on their site:

http://eu.shuttle.com/en/Desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-3/

they say 'xpc barebones' and then they say 'xpc systems' whats the difference?

also - are they hard to build yourself?
