This is the thread for people who are either about to get Fallen Earth or are already in game where we can put basic information for those starting out, and discuss any plans and such we might have for those in the game.

BASIC STUFF FOR NEW PLAYERS

For those looking to start out and hook up with those of us already playing the best bet after completing the tutorial is to start in the town of Boneclaw. This is the combat town, labelled melee. We picked this one for no particular reason but it seems to be okay, population isn't so high so targets are plentiful and we know most of the starter missions and locales pretty well now.

As yet we do not have a clan set up, so if you want to find us the best place is to show up on TS or give a holler here and we'll track you down in game.

STUFF TO CONSIDER FOR THE FUTURE

At the moment we're doing a lot of lowbitastic farting around, but in the long term we've got a few things to consider:

1. Which faction to pick. There are six of them on offer although relations between them are tricky. Each faction has two friends, two enemies and one arch enemy. So theoretically we could sort of cover a spread of three factions, we'd need to decide upon which would be our mid-point though. Worth noting however that faction is not permanent, so if we don't like it we can work our way around. So for instance a CHOTA character can become an Enforcer, he just has to go via a few other factions on the way.

2. What we do about a clan. We all know how it goes, however well intentioned any RL group is going into a game we're going to see the shine come off the apple within a month or two tops and by that time we either need to be bedded down with a different clan or have our own branch of RL up and running with new recruits.

Didn't want to post my own opinion in the big questions post, but here's what I'm thinking regarding factions and clans personally.

I think it's likely that the Enforcers and the Techs are going to be the most populated factions, by virtue of the fact that they sound the coolest and most accessible to Joe Pickupgroup. It's possible that CHOTA will be a big group too, full of wannabe Great Humungouses riding around on big truck like things with nutters on leashes chasing Mel Gibson all over the shop. That's just guesswork though, because we're not even close to there yet and my guess is we'll have to tune in to the whining to see which way the balance of power is going.

That said what I'm drawn to at the moment is having our base point faction as the Travellers. This means that our allies are the Techs, so we can have characters in there and the CHOTA, so we can have characters in there too. The Travellers seem to be the sort of lone warrior types. I really want to have a character in the CHOTA, but I wouldn't wish the Vistas on anybody who didn't expressly want to be there.

The flaw with this plan is that it seems to be that the Enforcers are the combat rifle specialists. Although that said the Techs will probably be able to make the best guns.

I'm reasonably easy going with regards to where we end up but I do think that, barring the factions that are either total hippies or out and out wussies we ought to be aiming for the lower populated groups.

With regards creating a clan, I'm all for it but it's going to mean recruiting, administrative ballache and possibly even a spreadsheet or two. I'd probably want to be very sure I was in this game for the long term before getting into that whole business again.

I'm getting really sick of the Chota, I'll be glad if we never see them. I know you hate the idea of Enforcers/Techs but it does seem like they're the most intresting factions at the moment. Really not faffed about the light bringers. The travelers are fairly cool and seem to get on with the Techs. I quite like the Vista's. Mostly because I'm looking at mostly green areas which don't remind me of bloody Chota-ville.

What have the CHOTAs done? Are they turning into twatfaced zerg monkeys?

Ditching the CHOTA wouldn't be the end of the world for me anyway, if we go tech as our base we can have riflemen in the Enforcers and I can go pistol/melee with my current melee toon. The principle concern for me has always been to avoid being part of a faction with a huge numerical advantage, so when we get tot he end game we'll have to see what's what I guess. If the CHOTA are popular it'll be great fighting them as Enforcers and whatnot, but if they are rarer than tits on fish it won't bode well for the amount of PvP we'll be getting.

Have found a stash of PotBS players and are looking at setting something up regarding a clan. Woo!

Heading in shortly, so is it still Boneclaw as our starting point?
Have left War now (due to performance issues) and need a little bang to counter Aion's pretty grind.
Also can't find TS details and have had to re-install, so if you could post m8, would appreciate it.

Cheers

Can anybody else who is playing this tell me how long they spend on the 'Collating Data' part of the launcher process? For me it takes fucking ages. I mean several minutes not just an annoying few seconds. No idea what the problem is but it's turning into a real deal breaker for the game because I don't pay my sub for ten minute load times.

Edited to add, turns out it's a connection thing. Bleh.

Having performance issues here too, the game look shite and plays shite.
War can be fixed by dodgy vpn tunnel thingy, this may not.
I don't have a cheap downloader and actually paid for this, Hovis what were you thinking m8.
Like the cut of your jib always, but this is poor stuff. Lag on first quest, it popped 15 mins later and the log in is long.

I never had any performance issues at all. That said I wouldn't expect to given my system, not sure what it's like on middle of the road PCs or worse. I found it performed and even looked a bit like WAR, in terms of the frame rate dropping when loads of people are around, but unlike WAR the game isn't really focussed on that as the sort of core of the game. The big fights were key to WAR, the wandering about alone or in a small group is sort of what Fallen Earth is meant to be about.

The mission update lag you can fix from logging out to character select and back in.

I'm probably not going to stick with it long term anyway, apart from a few of my old PotBS droogies there's not really enough people around that I know to play it with, and I don't fancy starting a new guild in Fallen Earth with Star Trek looking good and only a few months off.
