Shamelessly pinching the title of the old aion thread, i spent some time checking out the forthcoming releases from asia, big improvements have been made in the overall quality of their games and certainly alot have been tailored to be more suitable for the western markets.
The first game that really interested me is
Continent of the Ninth
http://c9.hangame.com/
Apart from looking stunning the game uses controls similar to the old beat-em ups where you can chain combos by combining mouse clicks / directions / and skills , it also uses a non-targeting system - i.e you hit where you are facing rather than clicking a mob and hitting it. i have linked the videos directly but i'd recommend watching them in hd on youtube.
In-game trailer

Demonstration of how the skills work.
2E3_MNEV6Us
Blade and Soul
http://bns.plaync.co.kr/
Another NCsoft game, for people who have played l2 and aion it looks like they took the female characters and went just a little bit too far :D
No idea on the gameplay yet, but martial arts on crack is win for me.

Mabinogi Heroes
http://heroes.nexon.com/ (http://heroes.nexon.com/)
Another game that uses a non-targetting system, a lot of the new and in development games seem to be making a push away from the regular point/click/target ideology (dont even mention age of shitnan).

This doesn't seem like such a leap to me, because games like the Dynasty Warriors series have been implementing more and more RPG elements into their traditional hack and slash gameplay for a while. I suspect given how popular that kind of game was over in Asia the evolution of a hack and slash (or chop socky depending on the weapons) MMO is as big a Gamegasm moment as it would be for us Western folks to get a genuine MMOFPS.
That said, as a massive chop socky/hacky slash games fan, the idea of this sort of interface implemented into an MMO gives me the raging gamehorn. Particularly as it suggests the potential for similar combat to Mount and Blade, only in an MMO format, which if it's down without a serious latency and outside of a game that looks like it crept out of a cats bumhole (yeah I'm talking to you Darkfall you fugly shitweevil), it could be Jebus reborn as a game.
Cheers for the links and info :D

Blade and Soul looks a lot like 99 Nights, which is no bad thing. I'm not a massive fan of the look of it, but that is character customisation options notwithstanding. If it's like Granado Espada where everybody looks the same it won't be so good, but decent customisation would definitely be a plus. Didn't see too much that looked like large scale combat, but here's the dirty little secret, if the PvP is basically fighting game style, you don't need scale, least not a hell of a lot of it. Just a few players in the same fight would make for a great game.
Time to watch the others!

Continent of the Ninth is a fucking MMO?!?! Shit I've played fighting games that didn't look that good. Didn't see much of much from the trailer, but the important bit, the combat, looks like winsauce on an awesomeburger.

Forty seconds into the Mabinogi: Heroes vid and I have made a happy mess.
Okay seriously, that looks absolutely fucking incredible. I mean a dungeon crawl, but it's like a proper fighting game (a style of game that tends to have a really low player count, usually two). And you can hit fuckers with the scenery and stuff.
Seriously thanks for the links P, these games look amazing. It's so fucking rare to see games that are willing to chance real action gameplay in an MMO format.
Mine eyes have been opened.
The only trouble now is deciding between them. That's going to be hard work. Sort of like seeing how many blowjobs Angelina Jolie can perform in the space of a month. Hard, thankless, work. :D

Mabinogi looks pretty ace, i like the more down-to-earth approach rather than disco inferno effectmania where everyone can fly. Didn't even watch Blade and Soul on the basis that the still image looked like your usual JRPG rubbish which are most often about snotty teenagers with ridiculous haircuts and weapons the size of a refridgerator killing Satan.
Why can't someone make a Severance: Blade of Darkness mmo? Something proper low-fantasy. Fuck wizards in the rectum with their pointy hats.

Nah Gun is right. It wouldn't destroy the universe if somebody made an MMO without wizards for a change.

Mabinogi uses the Source engine apparently. That's great news because that engine rocks like all kinds of a sexy motherfucker.
Have a gameplay vid, shit looks nearly ready. Altogether now;

Hmm it's basically a side scroller - since it's free it has free quality, so to speak ;) It's not terribly bad, but nothing to write home about either.

Mabinogi seemed cool. If only for the coop.
It would be fun to have game elements where you needed to use coop to take down mini bosses and "regular" bosses. Not team play ala WoW, but more like game mechanics that needed more than one player to execute. Eg a mini boss on a horse needs one player to throw a rope to the other so that the horse trips and so on.

Seen some stuff going on in that vid with harpoons, could be similar.
