Anyone an educated guess on when it's gonna be released?

Last date I heard was 09-09-09... but the reason they came up with this date was because when you spin the Diablo 2 CD backwards you'll get that date on your screen.... or something like that.

My expectations are low. Unless it manages to go the way of TF2 and L4D by taking simple gameplay and running riot with it I don't think an isometric hack and slash is going to be that great. I wasn't a huge fan of Diablo 2, because unlike the first game it wasn't very original and half of the levels were shit. Diablo 3 is going to have to be so much better than the earlier titles to even make it onto my radar to be honest. Not to mention Diablo 2 is really fucking old, so god knows what this one will be like because surely they are going to have to do something about the massively limited gameplay options of the early games.

Some genres I think are dead on merit, or lack thereof.

Remains to be seen though, I mean TF2 and L4D went pure old school and were great fun, but they were FPS games and they went the route of pure multiplayer. I don't know that the gameplay of Diablo will have aged so well.

I'd like to be wrong of course though because funnily enough I actually like for games to be good. :eek:

i hope they take alot of the stuff from titan quest and develop it further. Like making your own classes was pure win in titan quest.

I dunno about the gameplay to be honest. I just think the sort of hack, slash and level up gameplay that Diablo had has been topped since. I mean look at something like God of War for example. You might say they are completely different genres of game, but I think that in truth God of War is the very natural direction for Diablo to evolve.

Take out the platforms, replace with yet more fighting, and I think Diablo 3 as a sort of God of War style game could work.

What I don't want it to be is the sort of stat on stat maths war of the original Diablo games. But hell I'm sure if that is exactly what it is it'll still sell a billion copies.

I'm very curious and expect the game to be the successor of WoW. Especially since alot of WoW vanilla players got completely disappointed with the WotLK content and left it.

Yes what I want them to uppdate the most is the multiplayer maybe with some new modes like you suggest but the rest of the hacking and slashing and the number crunching I found very addictive.

Although I was pretty down on it before I should add if they can get some sense of epicness to the visuals that could swing it for me. If they really go to town on making it look good, and I don't just mean fat polygon counts and shaders, I mean swarms of baddies, kickass moves, guts all over the shop, maybe some physics in there. If they are going to stick with the isometric that means a small area, with a close focus, which means because it's small everything has to look mint.

it will have a Hc mode what they have been thinking on is how it will work whit their pvp arena system if its dead in there = dead for real or a softcore ish where just pvm deaths count.

But the annoying thing is that there wont be any PKs according to some, just the arena to pvp in :(

There is no D3 beta yet - the info that you see now comes from a press event. A lot of sites have now info on it, quite interesting. :)

And D3 isn't an MMO in the same sense as others, no fees/etc. :)

I'm starting to think Blizzard are the Apple of gaming. To their fans they are like some sort of religion, a deity that cannot be doubted. To the majority of people who either never played or long since quit WoW, and who were nonplussed by Starcraft 2, all the hype and craziness just looks a little creepy.

So I really hope that I like Diablo 3, because I liked most of Diablo 2 (great game let down by about half the levels being total shit). I want Blizzard to make a game that isn't just for their fanboys, just to prove they still can.

As to the hand holding through the quests, I don't see how it makes a difference, and certainly not how it makes the game worse :P
The difficulty should be provided by the action, not by getting lost in the wilderness looking for the next objective.
We're spoiled now, we *like* the quality of life additions, by and large.
There's nothing stopping up tarting around exploring all the corners anyways.

The reason I drew the comparison is because they are both companies who stick to immensely strong brands. iPhone, iPad, MacBook or whatever it is those Apple freaks use, and at Blizzard it's Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. It's a very strange business model to focus on a tiny number of IPs, given the size of the company, and release almost nothing at all.

Seriously all Blizzard needs is some **** with a messiah complex and a black sweater to do really cunty keynote speeches to starstruck nerds and they'd be sorted.

I don't doubt Diablo 3 will be polished. The question is will it be good for anybody who wasn't already a big Diablo/WoW/SC fan. I mean obviously it'll be huge. But the question is are they looking to produce a game with the classic appeal and enduring qualities of the original, or are they just looking to shift a load of copies.

The hype surrounding the D3 beta is quite crazy considering how short it is, but D3 is one of the most anticipated games of the last few years and it is fun. (but to be fair, if it was a different setting but the same type of gameplay, I would look forward to it)

As for Blizzard focussing on the same IPs, that's true but why not? Instead of driving them into the ground like some other IPs have been by other game studios, Blizzard actually keeps them alive and fun to play.

To be honest, I'm actually glad I'm not in the beta. It's too short, and even if it wasn't you'd still have to give up your characters at the end of it. I'll rather wait for the whole game and enjoy it in it's entirety instead of a small bite now.
