Although i havent played in over 2 years due to my account being sold after i loaned it to some1 to look after...... General advice is pick one thing and stick to it, ie, mining or fighting (for the first 2 weeks there is loads more to do though but those two are the basics) dont spread you learning out. Start with ships and then go on to weapons or mining. Do the learning skill afte the 2 weeks if you decide to continue playing as they do help alot. But not for a 2 week trial.

I'd do mission running for the first part tbh, unless you want to mine. Get a rifter asap they rock. Just learn by doing, dont be afraid to lose a ship in the first 2 weeks as frigates are cheap as chips. Destroyers are good but too slow for mission running tbh as you want to be doing them quickly and the rfiter is more than capable :)

oh yeah forgot about char creation, start a char thats got high base skills for what you want to do. Google it, there should be guides on making the best chars out there somewhere.

i had a mate that made a char with great mining base skills and he ended up a complete rifter/rupture/tempest junkie that never mined at all. With the right stats he'd have been able to train gunnery skills alot quicker.

Exactly the same thing happened to me so when I wanted to play EVE again I started with a new char and I had found these threads that are quite helpfull, apparently the best race for a new char that isn't interested in researching etc is Caldari with the new Achura bloodline as it says here (Post 36) http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=472543&page=2#36

Also this thread is quite usefull.

As an aside I'll never know why people let others touch their accounts. "I'm not using it so go ahead," is just a foreign concept to me I guess.

The best advice that I never got about EVE is BE A NEWBIE. When I started out I was surrounded by massively higher skilled and more experienced players, railroaded along the most successful PvP path, bought everything I needed and basically sent to the front line with little or no idea what was going on. I basically feel, looking back, that I missed out on the time to bond with the gaming universe, any chance to get into the game. I never ran a mission, I never ran a complex til much later, I didn't do any of the stuff the game is about for the majority of it's players and I couldn't just go back and do it later, because those are parts of the game that are best seen through the eyes of a newb.

Stay in your starter school a while and learn with the other newbies. Don't be tempted to join a corp at the begining for the sake of it.

Don't bother with mining, go weapons and gunnery, kill rats, run missions and complexes for money and loot. These skills will help you PVP, otherwise later on in the game its very booring. Focus your skill points, specialise your charicter. Don't spread them out.

Ok dont be afraid of fucking up your attributes. There will be attribute remapping (aka respeccing) introduced in the near future (March) along with doubled training speed on new characters up to 1.6mil skillpoints. If you want a fighting chance to enjoy the game join the corp Im in.
MEK Enterprises (http://forum.mek-enterprises.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3) We dabble in quite frankly anything you want. We have no requirements beyond being mature and competent.
Also avoid Hov... nvm. ;)

Yeah ignore me I want everybody to fail at everything. Always have done. :D

Seriously though I would avoid any corp til you know what you're doing. Joining a corp right off the bat is a big mistake. This isn't like WoW where you'll want company on a path to the endgame, there is no endgame, there is just the game. Much of that at the start you will want to experience solo.

If you're just starting out and don't like what you see, wait until the new expansion comes out and try again... The new expansion is revamping the whole new-player experience, including a new epic storyline string of missions, easier character creation, and attribute remapping once you know what's going on...

Basically, they're flattenning out the learning curve a bit...

As for advice in what to do:
Do all the missions you can get when you first start, they'll teach you the game. Do missions until you can run level 2 missions or preferably level 3 missions. Once you can do this, then you'll probably know enough about the game to join a corp...

Alternatively, Faction Warfare is a good way to bridge the PvP/PvE gap! You can join the FW corp of your preferred race and pewpew for a bit, you'll learn a lot more about the game here, and if you're good, you may even get head-hunted by a FW corp.

With a Caldari Achura character, you can (with about a week's worth of training) get up to 20/20/20/20 in the attributes that matter (Charisma doesn't mean shit 90% of the time), so if you don't know what you want to do to start with, this is probably the way to go (even if you don't want to fly Caldari ships... Your training path is completely open-ended, you can be Caldari and fly Gallente ships if you want).

Most people tend to give up after the 2-week free trial, which is upsetting really because they don't get to see 99.9% of the game (kind of like most MMOs really, but other MMOs are more grabbing in the first two weeks). If you do get frustrated/bored/annoyed in the first two weeks, please please please try again when the new expansion comes out... There will undoubtedly be an influx of new players (other people the same level as you wanting to learn), and the whole new-player experience will be much better.

If however you do still like the game after two weeks and want to continue playing, my corp (like Ardesco's) is currently recruiting for PvP and Industry. Hit me up if you want some more info (on anything EVE related).

I have 4 accounts now at 55, 45, 10, and 2 million skillpoints, so I like to pretend I know what I'm talking about! :D
