View Full Version : Preparation for MC

I suggest that everyone who is going to MC this weekend read up on some information.
A place to start: Tips for Raiding (http://forums.renegade-legion.org/showthread.php?t=1448)
Information on the mobs in MC: Conquest website (http://conquest.teamgbu.com/strats/moltencore/Map.php) - We will be entering from the NW corner, so we will initially face Molten Giants, Firelords, Lava Surgers and Ancient Core Hounds. If everyone reads about those mobs so they know their abilities, it will make things a lot easier.
If everything goes well, we might get through the imp caves and encounter Lucifron, but don't count on us getting that far. We don't have a lot of experience with 40-man raids, so the first problem is getting the players and guilds to work as a unit. We are going to wipe several times, don't be disheartened when it happens, hopefully we will come out all the wiser. Remember the soulstones though ;)
Should we reach Lucifron, here are some guides: Inner Sanctum forums (http://wow-inner-sanctum.org/Web/forums/231/ShowPost.aspx) Conquest guide (http://conquest.teamgbu.com/strats/moltencore/lucifron.php)
Oh, and remember:
1. Everyone must be on TS.
2. Stay quiet on listen. That goes for the ingame chat channels as well. Planetside players will know the drill: Listen to the raid leaders orders, send tells if you have alternative suggestions.
3. Patience is a virtue: There will be a lot of time standing around because this is the first time we try working with a 40-man group. Resist the temptation to fool around, the more disciplined we are, the faster we will get moving.
Looking forward to it :)

Shini sounds like he has been there before. =)
The guild Greed, Donia, Brazak and I come from wiped on the first two mobs when we first tried. Wiping will happen and only doing it over and over until you get the timing right and people figure out what to do exactly against what mobs will you succeed.
I would suggest you assign 2 tanks for each mob and both warriors tank the mobs aggressively so that if the MT dies the mob will (hopefully) turn to the MT2. You do not want mobs walking about in the nuke camp, it is almost certainly a wipe.
Edit: Bring Repair Bots! By the time you get to Lucifron you will definitely need to fix up that armor. MC is expensive. =(

I dont know our healers status/amounts, but im thinking of respeccing Mavi to a damage dealing druid (balance) instead of a healing druid (restoration). The difference between is not the amount of dmg/healing done, but the amount of mana spent on dmg/restoration spells. If i spec dmg it takes less mana to deal dmg but more mana to heal people...
Just wondering what would be wise here...

I think we'll need all the healers we can get in the beginning, then if we have an excess of healing power, you can maybe respec.
Innervate ftw in long boss fights :)

I like the video.
Lucifron didn't even take a glimpse at the rogues or mages during the fight. All his aggro was at the MT.

That's not a problem with good tanks, though it helps a lot that the MT has Lucifron to himself while the DPS kills both guards. He builds a lot of aggro in that time.
However, if someone pulls aggro off the MT on a MC boss, they are going to get creamed. The priests will have to scrape them off the walls before they can get ressed. Anyone that doesn't have 7-8k+ armor, 5-6k+ hp, ~400 defense and 3-5 healers spamming flash on him will go down fast in MC, and most likely cause a wipe because it screws up positioning and the boss might start rampaging around in the caster camp.

There are some ppl on the PvP side that have ventured in there and even killed a boss i think. Can ask them and should for some tips.

A note to the paladins in RL / The Scorned:
Your role in Molten Core is: Healing, decursing, buffing, providing auras.
Bring your mana and +healing gear, AC is not important. Neither is melee damage.

All his aggro was at the MT.
As shini said, because the MT has Lucifron all to himself for a couple minutes while the guards are killed.
But this brings up another point, and I think this was also mentioned in one of the posts shini linked to earlier. Giving the MT time to build aggro is essential to killing most any mob inside MC. Those that aren't are either AoE trash or they are weak enough to not cause a lot of dmg before dying. "Weak" is relative, of course, because any mob in MC is hella strong compared to anything outside MC.
Here (http://www.curse-gaming.com/movie.php?movid=47) is a very good example of how long the MT has to build aggro on bosses. As a bonus, you are able to hear the ventrilo chat which provides an excellent insight on the strategy to kill Onyxia, and it's almost like being there yourself. I watch this video every once in a while, fantasizing about killing the biggest, meanest dragon out there. =)

We wont have any MC run until we have enough people flagged for the area. Most people are not flagged and I don't see any flagging run on the raid schedule for the week either. I think that we should replace some other instance run with MC flag runs, so that we have enough people flagged.
As for paladins 'decursing', can't help ya there, paladins can't remove curses :D Although I suppose that the effects there most likely aren't curses..

Sorry, I was just using 'decursing' as a general term for removing debuffs from other players. 'Dediseasing' doesn't sound very good ;)
We've talked about doing BRD raids with 10-people for Attunement to the Core, if I get online tonight I might arrange one around 19-20 server time (DKP raid at 22:00, inviting will probably start around 21:15)

I did MC today with my alt and I made a few ingame movies about some pulls and stuff like that. Unfortunately I'm a bit of an idiot so i managed to screw up the movies from the first bosses and then i ran out of diskspace, but there's a bit of useful stuff in there. :)
I'll just post here what I have and later, when we try it again ill make some more vids including some bosses :)
You'll need xvid codec to view em.
This is from the Denied guild on the Bladefist server, where I play a Tauren warrior called Rothar.
The first vid is of a lava surger. It's quite simple and straigth forward, but here you can see what it does (aoe stun, intercept) so you know what to expect. You can also see we wait until the tank gets aggro a bit until we start dps'ing. Voices are from ventrilo.
Lava Surger (http://www.bierenfriet.nl/~razor/wow/Lava%20surger.avi)
The rest i got is from the core hounds. Those are the groups of 5 dogs which have to kill within 10 seconds of each other. Pretty straight forward, but can be painful if you screw up :)
Basic idea is that you get 5 tanks to tank one each, then use mages to aoe them all from a distance (blizzard). Melee dps (rogue and offensive specced warriors) make sure they stay at the same percentage by actively selecting the target with the highest health percentage. Tanks need to postion them facing outwards so the tanks dont get aoe damage from all 5 dogs.
Me as DPS (pull screwed up a bit, but still no problem):
Core hound DPS (http://www.bierenfriet.nl/~razor/wow/core%20hounds%20-%20dps.avi)
Me as tank:
Core hound, tank (http://www.bierenfriet.nl/~razor/wow/core%20hounds%20-%20tank.avi)
Core hound with init, Tank (http://www.bierenfriet.nl/~razor/wow/core%20hounds%20-%20tank%20(incl.%20setup).avi)
Here's a movie from the bidding which is quite pointless, but you can kinda see how we do that and what cool shit dropped from magmadar :D
This is just some crap i accidentally recorded whilst screwing up my controls, but ppl might actually find it useful :P
Bids (http://www.bierenfriet.nl/~razor/wow/bidding.avi)
I'll try to get more of this stuff when I do it again.

The most important thing is that people listen and dose it fast and snappy, if someone tells you to move away from a given spot you do it fast. We had two wipes on big man Lucifron, one where a mage thought it wise to stand in the door way to the imps and pull those also, and one where someone got either mindcontrolled/feared/thrown in to the tunnel with the imps and pull them also.
In a fight against a mob like Lucifron removing curses and what ever gets thrown at you is crusual :) Its never fun to have impending doom on your head and know that in 10sec you get hit for 2000 damage flat. A tip is to bring pots that removes debuffs and also bring bandages ;)
However as deadly as mindcontrol is ... I laughed my ass off when my rogue was mindcontroled at one point and went to my groups only healer and interupted his heals ... which caused me to die as I had impending doom on my head and less then 2000 HP's :P In another attemt for lucifron I got mindcontroled once more and ended up taking out the MT with made Lucifron forget about him and he went on a killing trip though the caster ranks.

Nice videos Malgan.
Will you be coming with us tonight? We could certainly use all the mages we can get, plus your experience will be valuable :)
