Not that I'm best placed to really give these being a newb' myself, Pariah and Netster might be best to chip in with some but anyway for folks picking this up on the 18th or later lets see what we can do.
In no particular order.
--AA and AF have to be forced on via your graphics card options if you have the rig to use em.
--A class builder type site, and in fact for spoilers of all sorts, (if that's your kinda thing) can be found here http://www.wardb.com/renown.aspx?id=23
--A list of titles if you want a specific one (if that's your kinda thing :p) can be found here http://www.thewarwiki.com/wiki/Category:Achievement_Titles
--Even if you aren't into PvP it's worth trying to reach Renown rank 5 by doing some PvP scenarios. You can queue for them from anywhere in the world by clicking on the round icon on the left of your mini map. Renown ranks do cap by level however. From reaching 5 you'll be able to purchase all the tier 1 renown gear from renown merchants as you level up. More becomes available as you level. There are two renown merchants per warcamp (where you find PvP related quests at the end of tier 1) so be sure and check 'em both.
--If you want to meet a friend who is playing a different race asap, just do your first couple of quests to earn 50 brass coins then use these maps to find the flight master in your area.

Order= http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68681
--High Elves are not Scottish. Don't bother asking what are under their dresses.
--I've found that solo'ers or small groups get far less contribution (even if they work load is top notch) than individuals in bigger groups. Getting into the bigger group in a PQ will probably see a higher contribution affect. You can find open groups in your area by the small icon just under your characters portrait on your health bar.
--G.O.A. Group of amateurs. Hope for the best, expect the worst.
--For all your voyeuristic e-peen needs, and general displays of rank stupidity that your server community has to offer unofficial server forums can be found here. http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=87 or here http://vnboards.ign.com/warhammer_online_server_boards/c15887
--Influence rewards from public quest farming improve from Tier 2 significantly. Blue items from capping them out. It's worth trundling around each of the Tier 2 zones when you're allowed to get into them, starting level 10, in order to check out the rewards on offer.
--A basic guide to starting off in crafting can be found here. http://www.warhammeralliance.com/articles/showentry.php?e=77
Will edit more in as they spring to enfeebled mind.

Nice Post.
I'd suggest modifying the UI. All the screenshots people have posted on this forum so far have the standard UI layout. Due to the poor in-combat feel I found it much easier to have my healthbar and the target healthbar in the middle of the screen on either side of my character.
Whenever you do a PQ look for a group, there is a button under your character name to see all open groups/warbands in your tier.
If anyone in your group shows a higher than amoeba level of sentience, add them to your friends' list because they will be rare as rocking horse shit (standard mmo advice really).
If you find a quiet PQ most DD classes can solo the first stage getting 100 INF per kill. I completed Chapters 7,8 and 9 solo in OB.
PQ rewards: By maxing your INF bar you can choose one of each type of reward for that chapter which generally equates to one potion, one pair of boots or gloves and a weapon or tunic/chestpiece. It doesn't matter if your current gear is better just view the INF gear as free cash at the merchant (you'll need 30 gold for a mount at Rank 20).
To view the available PQ rewards just click on your INF bar and that will open your Tome to show them all.
Take a collection skill as soon as possible to make money, you can change your skill later if you don't like your first choice.
Fleabag suggested doing RvR even if you're not into PVP. I'd suggest buggering off to play WoW or EQ if you don't like PVP because this really isn't the game for you.
Renown: Earn it, max it, steal it or buy it from farmers (ok two of those are impossible but you get the point). Renown is your key to the best gear, up to Rank 10 from the traders in the Warcamp and then at Rank 14 you'll need to find a friendly owned keep for the traders. Also without maxing your primary damage attribute at the renown trainer your character will be akin to a solar powered Ferrari performance wise.
Sorry for some duplication of Fleabag's points but those things are very important.

as far as renown points spent on attributes are concerned they added a 50 silver respec cost - so early on its not worth juggling the points around everytime you get a new renown rank(you used to be able to respec at will), later of course 50 silver will be peanuts,
so personally i'd just spend the first 10 points in my "main" stat, the cost increases expontentially for each rank of the renown so youll be able to buy each level at rank 1, rank4 and then rank 10 i think.
detaunt/de-aggro works in pvp - if you are a squishy class or aggro magnet chances are you will get some form of de-aggroing skill - this works in rvr and is particularly useful for negating 1 player from doing decent dmg to you.
Most buffs from classes like rune priests / zealots have a useable dmg component to them - they are normally on a long cooldown but they add an extra ranged attack to classes that dont have many.
If you are playing order on the same server as netster dont bother buying any siege oil - he will be at the keep using the siege oil way earlier than you ever thought of heading up there.

does taunt work in pvp?

yes but not in the way of pulling a person to target you like a pve mob would.
Taunt -
You enrage your opponent, interrupting any currently building abilities and forcing monsters to attack you. While taunted your opponent will take 30% more damage from your attacks. This effect will fade after 15 seconds or after your opponent has hit you 3 times.
An example of a de-taunt
You Detaunt your target by surrounding them with thick smoke, making them hate you less and causing them to deal 50% less damage to you for 15 seconds. If you attack anyone that you have Detaunted, the effect will immediately end.

Contrary to what you would expect, Warrior Priests make ridiculously good Tanks when you have not got a proper one around.
Bag's managed to tank three destruction players earlier - A Chaos Tank, Witch Elf and a Goblin Shaman-thing. They couldnt beat him down no matter how hard they tried and promptly fell to the combined weight of Fireballs and Rifle fire.

This is largely down to healing being very very much overpowered at lower levels. Once more abilities designed to squish the healer come into play this resolves itself I've been told. Silences, healing debuffs, crowd control in general start feeding more and more into the mix from the 20's onwards.
That said, WP's and DoK's are pretty mean damage absorbers. But without taunts they aren't the slightest bit tanky in PvE really, unless the person knows what they are doing and uses their heals to gain hate as much as possible. Most random DoK's I've found can't do this. :p
More newb' tips coming later. :)

--Flagging. You can turn your PvP flag on at any time by right clicking your portrait, to unflag (if you really want to) I gather you have to do nothing that would flag you for 10 minutes before the option to do so becomes available. Flagging tends to spread like wildfire really. But it's an RvR game so meh. Zoning or logging will unflag you provided you are outside an RvR area of course.
--You can hide your quest list by clicking the little downward facing arrow thing to the bottom and right of your mini map. This is largely helpful in RvR and for nubs like me who have to play in a low resolution. It's pigging annoying to go to target someone on the right of your screen in the world and have your Tome spring open.
--The Tome is mostly fluff. Yup it tracks your quests of course, but it does have lots of other odds and sods to read as you run about. That said, Tome unlocks will lead to PvE tactics and to certain bits of gear bought from your capital city.

Having played with almost half a dozen of them non stop over the past three days i can tell you its the opposite. Up until level 15+ they cant Tank well at all. After that they can do Champions with ease and Hero's without too much of a problem considering.

So long as they know what they are doing. Hate generation can still be a problem with no taunt. But my DoK in beta did the same thing tankin' wise. Even saw one briefly tanking a Keep Lord last night till an Orc dragged it off them. Still nothing like a PvP meat shield in quite the same way as a 10k hit point defensive built Black Orc though. :p
Got to find grab a piccy of my Shaman when servers are up. He looks like an ugly KKK Smurf at the moment.

Oh yes one other thing I can confirm.
--A Greenskin zone will drop more Greenskin specific items. 100% sure about this now. If you want to try and get drops for your race, or get drops for an alt' quest and PQ in a racial zone you want gear from.

I think PQ loot bags will always contain something useful to the character you are on. At least that has been the case in the 4/5 I've won so far.

Yes they do.
Moreover if you find a broken item that needs to be repaired (think all merchants do this down the bottom of their UI window) then at least for the first couple of tiers that also relates to any class. Each person looking that the repaired result will see something useful to them. So it's always worth rolling on them.

1. Ask on TS.
2. Look on TS. (Both Servers we are using are listed in the Channel Description)
We are not playing Destruction atm. Queues for that side are massive on most servers and besides, its fun being the complete underdog.

Sigmars hammer - Located in altdorf in the war quarter (place where you buy mount / guild registrar) - theres a door behind the guild registrar npc that will take you to sigmars hammer - inside you can buy renown gear from npcs - at a later guild rank the prices will be reduced but for now its an easy place to buy gear if we dont have keeps.
