View Full Version : Recruitment Ideas

Okay, I know that Fusion had asked for some help in getting a "Recruitment" campaign going or possibly even help with getting our Recruitment rules re-written. So I thought I would start this thread to get some input from the current players.

Please answer these questions :

1.) Do you think BR should count toward acceptance?

2.) Do you think a two week trial period followed by a week long vote is too long or too short?

3.) Do you like the idea of a sponsor? (Sponsor would be the player who is accepting responsibility for inviting the person and may be effected by a new players actions - not sure how, but we may need to come up with something for extreme example.

Personally my answers are:

1.) No. I think we should accept any "Team Orientated" player. But it must be stressed that they have to use TS, register with the forums, and follow orders.

2.) I think it is fine. Two weeks (and the player should be active at least 8 of the 14 days - this is for the initial two week trial period, after that he's a member and can go inactive if he/she must) is enough time to have the group decide whether someone could be tolerated or not. And then having a week to allow RL members to put in their comments. Anything less and we might face instances of "Who let that guy in!?".

3.) Yes, I think its very important that a new player has a person they can contact to ask questions too when they feel embarrassed about asking something publicly. I also feel that a sponsor would allow RL members to go to a person they feel comfortable with for any complaints.

I also feel that at the end of the 2 week trial the Sponsor should put a post up in here with that person's name. And then only players who have a complaint should post. If nothing is posted for a week, they are in.

Well, I hope this gets the ball rolling on some sort of discussion. Next Friday I will tally up the results so please give an opinion. This Outfit's future is in the hands of its members. And though we face no critical moment, participation is always better then abstentions.

Cheers,

Yes or relevant experience, because until someone has learned the game, they are a hindrance, in game and on comms, (perhaps if we take on new players, we should have some form of training? That would perhaps avoid the crosstalk and disruption to others?)

2.) Do you think a two week trial period followed by a week long vote is too long or too short?

Far too long imo, its fairly easy to see if someone fits in or not, the flexibility we had with the voting system meant no time limit as such, some players got in with 24hrs, (tata being a case in point) others took much longer

3.) Do you like the idea of a sponsor? (Sponsor would be the player who is accepting responsibility for inviting the person and may be effected by a new players actions - not sure how, but we may need to come up with something for extreme example.

NO again, if the new player and sponsor find themselves often playing at different times, that cannot work, also I feel that a player needs to fit in, not just with one or two people

I found nothing wrong with the voting system, the only time it was a problem was when player numbers were low, needing 7 votes when we were lucky to have that many players didn't work then, but that is easily overcome, rules can always be adjusted (I've always hated people that quote the rulebook, when common sense is showing that another course of action would be better)

I am all for inviting complete newbies into the clan, actually. For several reasons - one being that that's where the most potential new members are. Once somebody reaches say BR 14 chances are that person has found an outfit already.
Also, actually having to teach people the game might actually just give us some ideas and make us think some more about what we actually do and how we handle some situations :)

2+3)
I ... don't know, to be honest. Echor makes a good point about the voting system being poor at a time but maybe better again now.

As far as I am concerned BR is not an issue if the player has switched from another empire or has joined us from another game.

As far as trial periods and sponsors go, I think that is really an issue for the entire community. But what Echor says rings true: we need to have something that is a lot more flexible. Can you guys think about that and post something in the meeting hall?

Niko's point about recruiting fresh players is a valid one. We can no longer rest on a laurels and hope that people will come to us "coz we're leet" after playing for a while with some other people (who they may now get on really well with).

Positive rep for all 3 of you!

This is going to sound incredibly BHOish. But erhm. Right here and now with the MarcoPolo campaign and all that going might be a good time to advertise a bit. As in on /b in sanc, and /l as we pour out of and load up a galaxy.

Obviously not spamming anything. One message every once in a while - maybe limit it by only having the highest ranking officer online advertising in that way - and make a standard message that everyone uses, such as :

"Renegade Legion is now recruiting. We mainly do galdrops and spec ops. Teamspeak required. New players are welcome! /t me if you'd like to join the squad"

And oh dear did I just suggest that?

actually.. I *shudder* think ONE global actually would be better

"Pardon me folks for taking your time, but we would just like to announce that renegade legion is looking for new members, please send a tell to one of our renegades if you are interested in join. Thank you"

this could work, if it was just that one global, maybe once a week or month. One important thing is that it does not end up as spammage.

Another solution would be to actually to get people right into squads.
Say in broadcast after recalling, and a time where we are no in a hurry:

"Renegade legion is forming up north west sanc, if you think you have what it takes to join one of the top NC outfits, why don't you try it out? Meet up northwest sanc, by the hart building and speak to one of hour members for a trial period. We will get you set up with ts as we go along"

Or something among those lines :)
Just my two cert points

*edit* The most important task is to make sure that this does not come over as spam, but as a solid invitation to players interested in teamwork.

The broadcast/squad invite idea is a good one :)

Agreed. Globals for Outfit invites make baby Jesus cry.

But I definitely like the idea about using our "Recall's and Regroups" as a side recruitment time. But as mentioned, lets not do it when we are rushing.

About the first question (BR), I wouldn't mind seeing us grab more and more newb players. They are the life blood of the game, IMO. I also think we could utilize TS more for training or newbie help. If we find someone needs more attention then others we can take them into a side channel and just switch Channel Commander on (or whisper to) and then help them as much as needed while still being able to follow with the squad.

I'll definitely volunteer to help any Newbies we get, but would like some backup for those times when I get frustrated......:)

no sanct broadcast spammage and no globals.
we might be lower on numbers than in the past but NEVER ever do this kind of recruitment. every outfit who does that is a joke and either they die pretty soon or everyone is laughing about them.

NEVER !!! period.

think the best idea to recruit new guys into RL is to fill up our squads when we recall (like daymare said: meet NW sanct and talk to one of our members).
this way we introduce new players into the way PS should be played and we might get some more members.
invite them for trial and then they have to show a mature mind and have to install and use TS. if not they can try out another outfit.

PS: reminds me when b00n and me spammed sanct with LFSM, filled a squad each and then kicked some arse.
then the best ones of each squad got an invitation offer (thats some of you  ).
think it worked quite well even tho rebel slipped through the net

Renegade Legion isnt' exactly some newly created n00b outfit. Don't think it'll kill us to broadcast once in a while in sanc if we're doing gal drops or sumtin to get more people to join up and perhaps recruit a few of 'em. Noone's talking about spammage. Only about helpful "Renegade Legion is going to save the day again - anyone else fancy being heroes" broadcasts :D

In my opinion that depends how its done, for instance last night, we had Tata piloting a gal, we couldn't fill it with the members in the squad (and whats with some RL members never joining the squad?) so we sat in NW sanct and did broadcasts for people to jump in the gal, we didn't say it was a RL gal or that we were looking for members, but if thats done a few times, I'm sure that some non outfit and noobs will jump in, thats the time to nab them?

Check this (http://forums.renegade-legion.org/showthread.php?t=119) thread. We are already voting on how to recruit for any game in RL.
