been curious for a while now about this pirate game you all seem to be having fun congregating on ;), just wondering what its like and if anyone can give me the details gore n all.

havent played anything along these lines before so ive really got no idea and didnt want to splash out n get it till ive heard a little about it :), would be nice to play a little on a game with so many familiar faces around

If you have played and liked EVE then there is a good chance you would like it as they are fairly similar at face value.

If you hated EVE then you would be best off not bothering tbh. This is one of those love it or hate it games.

Many people say that this game is very similar to EvE, but I didn't play that game very much, so I would instead like to compare this game with the old 'Cutthroats: Terror on the High Seas' game from 1999 and the three 'Sid Meier's Pirates' games from 1987, 1993 and 2004, which I think has much of the same feel and spirit that this game has. If you ever played those games and liked them, then you will most likely love this game.

The problem is getting to the good stuff. Sometimes it's hard to find a good fight, but when we do, I tell you what, it's pretty damn sweet. Sometimes though it's a bit meh. It's getting better though, now we have the knack for powerlevelling lowbies and enough folks to PvP with we're doing some proper damage.

Eve is like paying money to go to a boring job in a factory, and Pirates is less so. If that makes it "Lite", then lite it is.

Those who play the British are absolute *****, yes. You learn to hate them with a passion.

It's an MMO, it requires time spent to be fun. And MMO's are very much about just liking it, so it's hard to say. Maybe someone still has a buddy key lying around so you can try.

Like i said on TS the best reference point is if you liked Sid Meier's Pirates! you'll like PotBS. If you never played it (as i recall you didn't) it's tad tough to compare the game to anything else. Best bet would be get a buddy key from someone as i don't think there's free trial available atm, unfortunately my digital dl purchase from Station Store didn't come with buddy keys so can't help you with that sorry.. Maybe one of the lads who got the boxed copy has an unused one.

Granted I only played PotBS for 3 days in open beta, but it felt waaaaaaay too slower and boring than EVE tbh (although I was playing eve for over a year so I'm propably not really objective).

I managed to play Eve for 3-4 days and it bored the fuck out of me, I've played PotBS for 3 months, so I guess tastes differ :)
