When you have either of those (enough currency to buy a ship), head to the capital. The reason for this is that you will leave your throwaway ship in the capital and use your best one. When you have a ship in a port, you can go to the dockmaster and ask him to transport you to your ship. Leaving your lousiest ship in the capital means you will be able to teleport back and forth, saving you an insane amount of time.

Teleporting is good... but you can only carry your personal cargo. This means if your going to hand in Pennants for ammo you cant bring the ammo back as it is stored in your ships hold.

not entirely true. You get for example the ammo in your ship hold that you have there atm, but you can at any harbor master got to any of your ships in any dock and swap items from them to your current ship hold. So in theory its damn hard to run out of storagespace :)

Are you sure about that? Sounds like it would kill any of the risk involved in shipping any real quantities of supplies etc. :S
