View Full Version : Training and practice

Our numbers have grown to a useful level again, but to grow our numbers we have a lot of new players in RL.

These players are all good guys (don't let your heads swell too much!) but some, not all, aren't used to working in the tight groups and practiced setups that we always enjoyed.

So I feel its time to teach our newest Renegades, and remind the older ones what RL is all about.

What I'm looking for is for someone to volunteer for this role, that is someone who can spend the time on the comms and the battlefield doing the odd session of pure practice, some of it in a live scenario, some of it staged in empty areas, just to run us all through how things should be done.

What I'm aiming for is a regular practice session, where hopefully we can get as many online as possible, do stuff by the numbers, see the results and enjoy it.

Volunteers for the role please pace forward one step, or pm me.

Also constuctive ideas/criticism please.

I can be around as Pilot when you want to practice the gal drop routines.
Just let me know dates/times etc and I'll see if I can make it.

It might be useful to create STPs (Standard Training Procedures) so that all the trainers know exactly what they should cover... Or maybe just standard operating procedures so that all the newbies know what they have yet to learn?
Maybe a post at the top of the page??

I'd be really interested in seeing a more closely integrated ground and air combat support. Perhaps, when the 5-man Renegade Commandos are more common/concrete, we can work in a reaver squadron to provide close air support?

Having reavers hovering high high over the battlefield doing Combat Air Patrol (intercepting incoming gal drops of reinforcements, for example) and providing the odd bit of close air support whenever the 5 guys get into heavy MAX trouble might be nice?

Just a thought,

Solid

Hmmmm....I wish I could help more, but as it is Sunday is the only day I get for gaming. I do notice that about an hour before every event a lot of NC just seem to be waiting around waiting for the event to start -- perhaps we can use this to our advantage and actually setup a practice session of 45 minutes before the Sunday NCWA event. It seems we have a large turn out for it, and perhaps with the added practice it could be a regular thing.

This is not to say we coudln't do it at other times also, just that this is a time I am free and I don't mind leading a squad around and showing them what we expect when dropping together - tower, base, <bfr - grins evilly>, or our armour columns, etc....

Cheers,

I think this is a realy good idea Tata.

During the last event with the Reavers we had a bit of a hard time coordinating things, and Justin pulled together a lot of stuff on the spot. In future when we fill roles that many in the Legion arn't too experienced at (such as heavy air cover), i think its a good idea to practice before hand, make plans, asign wingmen...that sort of thing.

In comparison, we only realy started preforming when we moved to mossie drops, something we've been practicing a lot lately and have good fighting methods in place.

I can always help and also I need some training.

I would like to suggest we start with a list.

1.Defence of a Base CE placement.
2.Best Spots for AMS's (Outside SOI) 2 is always better than 1
3.Tower Drops Which door is North and south (hackers EMP MAXS first)
4.Back Door drops (including the what ifs ie AMS seen Vehicles outside)
5.Routes to follow inside a base (Max first)
6.When to kill and gen and how
7.How to hold and CC and which ones should we not lose (DROPSHIP)
8.Where to hold within the base and when to pull back.
9.How to rpr and heal to hold a corridor.
10.Hold a hack using AA from the Outside. (unless BFR's turn up)
11.What is door a,b,c

If we get alot of these things in our mind then the chatter on TS can be less and the art of killing TR and VS becomes even easier.

I would like to practice Holding a CC with 10 of us I am happy to get input and any extra tips people have.

I prefer to practice stuff while actually gaining something, in other words I find it very hard to accept the lets practice on our own CONT.

So if I do it we will be attacking either an empty NME cont or we will be going in for real on a learn as you go basis.

I don't want to upset anyone by this suggestion, however I really do feel that it could help our group ALOT.

How about if we ask Eliminatorr to run some of the training classes?

I know that some of you have probably fallen out of your chairs, so I'll wait while you get back into them......

Seriously though, the guy knows PS inside and out, and his tactics and strategies are some of the best I've seen.

Looking at Justin's list I can see him giving us the "Perfect" setup for each of those important situations. For example the CE'ing of a base. This shouldn't be only for defense, but also for when we open up a continent and are hitting a base where we have 2 or 3 minutes before the enemy shows up.

Did you know it was 5 mines to kill an AMS? Neither did I until Elim told me about it. Did you know the best pattern for a Tech Plant Vehicle bay is a large X - start it near the panel to hack and place another mine on the opposite wall - .

Anyway, I don't know if he would agree, but I wanted to get your impression first before I even thought to ask him.

Cheers,

Tata , having been on few Eliminatorr excursions, I have to hold my hat to the guy tbh.
One that springs to mind was at a dsc ( ?) and despite there being only maybe 7 or 8 of us, plus a few extra nc floating about, his quick actions and tactical knowledge 'on-the -fly' made all the difference. At one point we had a orange alert, with the enemy at the spawn entrance and we managed to repel all the enemy from the base and all out lying areas .
I put this down to a couple of things , namely his brilliant tactical knowledge and strategical positioning of the troops available to him, and the fact that only one person was dishing out orders . No debate on next target or '' think I'll check out bd'' , more a case of '' X and Y cover back door with gauss and pheonix , X here and Y there '' with a constant relay of information that is entirely relevant to the situation at hand .

To put it short , I was quite impressed, but I also think that we have a comparable figure within the outit already in Shy . As soon as we can get the commando thing a norm I think RL could regain its formidable reputation of old again.

Well if you guys start letting Elim controll the RL training sessions I have a feeling I will be playing even less. No offense but the guy is a complete tard.
He has a mind for the game, yes. But he is so stubborn It makes me sick.

I must say I think it is a shame that RL has dropped to letting Eliminator be in charge, I know quite a few of the gades now in WoW would cry if they read this :\

Either way, I will be interested in joining these training sessions, but if Elim leads im out.

Well, this is one reason why I posted the idea before I floated it to Elim. To see what people thought about it. Elim is not RL, and he is not "in charge" of RL. However, he has been working with us lately and so far a majority of the players have changed their opinions about the guy.

I can't argue with you about his stubborness, and I have pointed it out to him on several occasions. He has a distinctive personality that doesn't tolerate failure, he also believes that everyone should see PS as he sees it - a tactical FPS with RTS undertones - and he doesn't have time (or the inclination) to deal with anyone that won't follow a tactical plan.

Daymare - The problem you have with him : is it a result from personal talks or from seeing his thoughts/ideas expressed through public channels? If it was personal, then that is your business and I won't get involved. But if it was on a public forum, than I would wonder if you might hold your judgement of him until you had a chance to deal with him personally.

Again, the reason I posted it was that I wanted feedback on the idea. I agree with SoulDemon about Shy, and I wasn't trying to "backslap" him by mentioning Elim. I hope Shy knows and understands that I respect his knowledge of the game, and I consider it much greater than my own.

-- On a side note, Daymare you express that the "RL" members in WoW would cry if they saw this post. Do you think they will ever come back to PS? It's been awhile now, and we sorely miss their presence and comradery. Perhaps if you would use my stupidity as "blackmail" we could get some of them to come back sooner? (grin)

Cheers,
