Now that we've all played the game for a while and most people have had plenty of experience playing alongside other classes, I'd like to know one thing: how do you feel about grouping/raiding with hunters? Do you feel that bringing a hunter makes the group weaker than taking another DPS-class? Do you try to avoid bringing hunters or do you feel they contribute valuably to the party compared to other classes?

After beta, some of us (and the WoW-community in general) had some concerns that the hunter class was not quite good enough, and lots of people reported not getting groups very often. I'd like to know if these concerns have been proven right or wrong :)

whilst never being a "must have" as far as groups are concerned most of the time, i think hunters are great to group with, using pets for adds/traps/dmg etc

never been in a group that has complained about hunter being in group or refusing to invite a hunter so i dont really see a problem

I've never seen anyone refusing to party with hunters.

I've seen people get mad on hunters - however this is mostly because of an uncontrolled pet.

... Bottom line ... Any hunter can be great, if only the pet is controlled and the pulling is flawless :)

IMO Hunters are shite at PvE (post lvl 60) and i dont blame ppl for not wanting them in their group. sure we can deal constant dmg even without any mana but...we are still shite IMO

I have definatly had ppl not want me in their group, prolly cos its Hincey and not the fact that i'm a hunter but i'm sure sometimes its a bit of both.

The only thing that keeps me playin my Hunter is PvP.

The main problem with hunters is that there are so many of us that it can be difficult to find instance groups that aren't solely made up of Hunters.

We offer reasonable sustained DPS (i.e. we can continue fighting without energy or mana), an ok off tank for extra DPS, some neat aggro management tools and we are essential in Molten Core if you want a reasonable chance of beating Magmadar.

Hunter has potential...

but being able to pull better with a lvl11 rogue using a teeny dagger. Then that HAS to be the biggest fucked up thing ever.

Being a rogue unless in raids doesnt let me group with mny hunters as they share the role as rogues do as secondary DD's.

Perfect Setup for a 5 man party =

Healer = Priest
Tank = Warrior
Caster = Mage / Warlock
2nd Damage Dealer = Rogue / Hunter
Off Tank / 2nd Healer = Paladin / Druid

So you rarely get people wanting both rogues n hunters in the same group - but with my experience in raids with hunters, its just like all classes - it depends on the players abilities entirely. Id like to see some hunters volenteer more in Instance runs to pull, as i think if they have a chance to set up everything it would be pretty cool, so shout up and ask if you wana try it guys, dont use the excuse that we wouldnt let you as you havnt asked!

But the warriors want to pull, because then we get the initial aggro :p

Honestly, In a tough instance, I'd never take a hunter over another class. As Rebel pointed out ^^ they're vying with Rogues for the spot, and a Rogue has 1001 useful uses, wheras more often then not, hunters are just there to make things interesting by tabbing their pet onto something accidentally, or backing into mobs because of their minimum range (This isn't an attack on our hunters, I think we have some great players who have the character, but that's ability that could have been put to better use in the less represented classes)

As Kaldor says though, when we start the raidinstances, Hunters become a lot more useful, so you lvl 60s are probably in your bad period - great soloing quickly to 60, great in Onyxia/MC, but not much cop in between

It also doesn't help that every raid we set up has at least 4 hunters wanting to come along, I think you guys should look into 5 hunter/ 5 pala groups and go zerg :p

Anyway, that was my honest opinion, not blowing smoke up your arse for the sake of Status Quo - until hunters find a niche, they'll be last pick at playtime

Hincey: I don't quite share your pessimist view of the class, but I do think we need a tiny bit more to make us more attractive in groups... something that other classes would want to bring a hunter for because some other class could not provide a similar advantage.

Compared to rogues, we don't do quite as much damage, but if you factor in our pet, we come pretty close. I don't know about the other hunters, but with my +crit oriented build I average between 170-250 dps depending on mob type, often around 300 dps if I go all out and chainfire arcane arrow and use multishot too boost my single target damage. Compared to rogues we can soak up a lot more damage though, especially once you factor in a 4000+ hp tank (buffed) and mail armor. Freezing trap is lousy compared to sap, but it has its uses, especially now the new graphic makes it more clear that the mob is CCed.

Well, this wasn't an attempt to do a rogue vs. hunter discussion, I'm just trying to say that I don't think hunters are so bad as some people make them out to be (Hincey ;) ) I certainly don't feel that I'm not contributing in 5-man parties once I get in, but that can be hard sometimes, also in RL. A hunter is just as much about skill as any other class, hunters that can't control their pet are just like warriors that don't use taunt or priests that don't shield AoEers... every class has bad players, the hunter class might have more bad party players becuase it's a great solo class and many hunters haven't been forced to group alot untill they need to do instances.

And Gromagrim is right about hunter pulling - warriors should have initial aggro, but hunters can be used for some difficult pulls because of our ability to reset a bad pull with Feign Death, giving you several attempts at splitting mobs that aren't linked, but stand/walk close to eachother, for example pulling the adds off Nathanos Blightcaller without aggroing him.

My level 60 dwarf with mostly monkey gear (and 3 beaststalker pieces) has about 3300hp unbuffed and I get around 130-150dps with ranged attacks (using the CombatStats mod that comes with CTMod).

Can you honistly say Shini that once you got 60 you you've been invited into a group cos they wanted you there over rogue, mage and not just because you are filling up the numbers or just even in the group cos if Beaststalker drops it would be a shame to waste it? cos i have.

And with all the negative vibs that go along with being a Hunter i really cba to even bother really. This kinda sums it up for me Pariah's lvl 30 something mage can hit for more than my or his hunter, i know he prollly cant take as many hits as me and i got a pet as well but i just cant get to enthusiastic about the class tbh :confused:

PvP yea were ok but nothing special.

If i'd be able to wind back the clock i'd prolly play a druid, mage or a priest....or anything that wasnt a Hunter ( or a warrior they sux to :p )

Well this is my prob atm i just subbed for 3 months and i got no idea why i did the games kinda boring for me now. I might carry on lvlin my Druid up to 60.

But i love PvP when its dont properly e.g. organised. I know alot off ppl will say then go join a PvP server...well i dont wanna when all of my m8s play on the PvE server and i dont wanna be ganked every day either.

And IMO PvE is no real fun its all about learning what the NPC is about to do there is not a load of variation, at least with PvP ur nme is either always changing or its the same target that is using thier skills to try and beat you. and overcome what tricks you have up ur sleaves.

The 4000+ hp tank is my bear :) It has a little over 3600hp unbuffed (I have the +10 hp to pet talent) and PW:F takes it over the 4k mark. I have 3300 hp myself, just like you.

The DPS is calculated by the same mod that you use, and includes pet DPS (Automatically included by the mod) I have 31 talent points in marksmanship and gear that gives me +9% to critical chance, plus the +5% crit chance and +50% damage on crits from talents. I have 275 agility and some +attack power items. It's the crits that keep my DPS up.

I use a Gorewood bow with sniper scope.

Hincey: Since I hit 60, I can't say that I have. Unless I've gathered the group myself I'm not picked over another DPS class. I believe it's mostly down to people being prejudiced towards hunters (or me :) ) I don't think were as bad as people make us out to be, but if noone is willing to give us a chance, that reputation will linger.

Good example, also the 'Track X' skills can be really handy, but of 8 classes, Hunters will be choice 8 - some cool stuff, but not enough to boost you above other fringe classes like Pala, Druid or Warlock

oy hince what about poor lil me? aint I your mate? ;)
anyway, if you don't like it on the pve server and don't like it on the pvp server then you got a problem :\
Suppose that would clear out when the battlegrounds come out... but thats a while to go yet.. =)
