How are we going to play Conan?

There should, I think, be some discussion about how we're going to approach Age of Conan as a clan. It's apparent that a lot of players want to get stuck in, and we may recruit from outside as well.

For what it's worth I have personally believe we should form a united front, head into a PvP server or whatever kind of thing they have, and basically make that server ours as we did Werner in Planetside. The reason I suggest a PvP server is because this firstly means we're all in the same spot, and secondly it keeps us united. It is my experience that you see more strife and more in-fighting with pure PvE play, because you don't have pressure from the outside bringing the player base together.

With that notion of unity however comes the understanding that if we do go to a PvP server we're in it like Hells Angels, all on one and one on all. In other words we commit to the clan, we back each other up, and if it kicks off in the pub we all charge in.

I think that officers from other games, if they are willing, should be offered rank in Conan if they feel they can commit the time. Officers in RL have always been selected for their quality as leaders, as organisers, as tacticians and as resolvers of disputes, and I see no reason why Conan will demand different skills. That doesn't mean that it won't be a chance for players to earn a promotion, it just seems like the easiest way to handle ranks in the early days of the game.

The biggest priority I think for us in Conan should be ambition. There is absolutely no reason why we can't dominate a server with the players we have. Personally I probably won't stick to an MMO if there is no objective, so for me the goal of being clearly the best guild is what I intend to aim for.

Also what are we doing about the name? I like Renegade Legion, and I'm happy to have that name. However, being as it's Conan, I would really love for the guild to be called "Just Another Snake Cult". Fans of the movie will get the quote. I think it'd be an awesome name. :D

Jumping the gun a bit, i think we should all wait until people are in Beta and we have some very concrete details from them, i mean cmon Bread there is 4 months to go.

Oh and hell no to "Just Another Snake Cult" as there is already a few Guilds who plan on using that name.


Btw, you should really read some info on the game, ALL servers have PvP. PvE servers still have the Border Kingdoms as a PvP zone so it doesnt really matter where we end up atm.

I'd vote for server type which has the loosest PvP rules. I want to be able to take revenge upon anyone i feel has some reckoning coming to them anywhere and at any time. And vice versa it adds hell of a lot to a game when you need to be constantly aware of your surroundings and be ready to fight at all times.

Besides there's still a chance Funcom will have player looting include their gear to some extent on top of the "Blood Money". They're undecided still about it and it's not very likely to go in but still a chance. What could be more awesome if some snotty little prick tottered around with some posh sword giving you cheek than to cut the fucker down and TAKE that lolli from him? Hope they'll have player looting include gear - opens up so many juicy possibilities for proper vendettas :p

In general it seems that Conan will have very good and extensive guild-centric goals and tools. Once a server's picked i think it'll keep us busy for a while to gather resources and build a town for the Legion and then to stockpile and ride to war in Border Kingdoms to find the fattest Battlekeep around and claim it our own. Fly the Big Red 'R' and whatnot.

Yeah I've been looking at forums, vids and pics and from what I see we just take the most evil PvP server possible.

I still remember all the fuss and bikering back when we had to decide on what server to go to in WoW. I was for the PvE one and oh boy did I regret that in the end...

We can talk about it now but I think that we don't know shit until some of us has been in the beta and scouted out the game.

We also kinda need to preplan whos going to be what in terms of skills like Lord, Master and such. We need a fair amount of each I think.

I really hope this game doesn't turn out to be shit since I'm planning to get that game once it is out.

Anyine that has a HP i can have a look at. So far the game sounds very nice, but i would like to know a bit more about it.

About PvP vs. PvE i would go for a PvP server. This will give the game an ekstra dimension.

About the name. Renegade Legion is my first, and only, choice. I believe that the name RL is growing in the online world. Why stop that?? We are a Legion to Fear.... :p

Thats a good idea, I know alot of the major outfits in PS are also creaming their pants over the prospects in AoC, would be good to keep alive alot of the old rivalries in another game just as we used to have against the 58th in BF2 and CSS and certainly keep in contact with alot of them.

However, as others have pointed out the game is still a long way off with regards to starting planning a guild, hopefull a few of our members will get the chance to test it before the game goes live and they can give us their impressions and alot of input.

Agreed. Unless standards have dropped officers are of officer quality regardless of game within the Legion.

Keep it as the Legion. It's who we are and if we're going by your aim to be the most ambitious group on the server then we want everyone to fear and respect the name Renegade Legion, not some random name where people go "Oh, isn't that Renegade Legion?"

Now there's an idea, adaptive caption to the game in question.

After all "Renegade Legion" and the 284th bit originates from the old FASA scifi table top game "Renegade Legion" where the name came from (correct me if i'm wrong, cba to intarweb the game-related sites) a rogue unit of the Terran Overlord Government - the 284th Armored Cavalry Regiment (hovertanks and shit). For our purposes the ACR was ditched for "Rapid Response Unit" which better described the outfit's style of play in Planetside and the added motto "Primus Inter Pares" (First Amongst Equals) was ninjaed from the British SAS (i think). Later on the motto has been adopted by at least one of the Arena teams in RL's WoW section.

That's the nominata history cleared kids, there'll be a test on this later on. :p

Thus "Renegade Legion - Just Another Snake Cult" would be a fitting and amusing extra tag for the possible future Age of Conan section of RL. Although lorewise i'm uncomfortable with it - i'd much rather swear allegience to the dark-browed Cimmerian than some dodgy Stygian priest-king...

Plan was for the PS lot it would be the same as it is now but with a NC logo in place of the Wolf. For WoW it was going to be the Orc Shield with the tag 'For the Horde!' and for AoC it was going to be 'Just Another Snake Cult' but hadnt decided on what image to replace the Wolf with.

'Primus Inter Pares' (first among equals) actually came from Emperor Augustus as a sort of clever way of making himself topdog but dont make it sound like that.. he used that term to describe his position while infact his power was closer to that of a dictator.

Stuff that seems funny and cool may just be that for a few mins and after that it will just look stupid. "The preteen smiley snake clan"? Not my cup of tea, dude...

On the server stuff, history dictates most peeps will just start where they personally want anyway. So debating where we should be is pointless before the game goes live. What server is chosen for RL will happen naturally by more and more people going one server over the other, just like Wow, I think.

Personally I hope we will go for a PvP server, but it maybe that the interesting PvP stuff is just as good on the PvE server. If it turns out running oure own "area castle" in the PvP area of a PvE server is whats most important to us, keeping control there from enemy PvP attacks etc, it mite just well be that random encounters in the field mite be viewed differently in a negative way, but time will tell I guess.
